Apologies if this has been asked already. I did search and found nothing. Is it possible to get the gps co-ordinates of a location from within dronescene?
I realise I can get it from Google maps but wondered if the functionality was in there and I just hadn’t found it. Thanks
If you click on a location marker added by a user and click the more information button it takes you to the locations details page like this:
The GPS coordinates and what 3 words address are displayed right in the center. Is this what you’re asking for? or have I misunderstood the question?
Thanks - it was more to do with spots that weren’t marked by users. Family has a farm in a FRZ and I wanted to ask ATC for permission to fly so need to tell them exactly where. Got the info from Google but just thought it would be handy if it was in dronescene.
Oh got you, so for an example If I was out at a new location and wanted to find the GPS coordinates of my current location.
I don’t believe that is possible within dronescene no.
to be honest with it being so readily available in Google maps I’m not sure how useful it would be.
Also not sure how difficult it would be to add, tagging the man with the answers @PingSpike what do you think? worth it? or to much work for something thats already easily available elsewhere?
@PingSpike could you get the data from open street maps?
Apply via Airportal, there you put a circle (or some other outline) on the location you want to fly, pretty much like using the map on dronescene.
I was actually wondering this myself the other day when reading this thread:
Could see how to get the info for an existing location, but no way (I don’t think) to get it for new locations. Didn’t want to suggest it as assumed it was just me wondering
Thanks I’ll check it out. Hadn’t heard of that.

Agree that’s exactly what I tried to do before I posted this.
Just for reference if I’m on the same page,
When you go on drone scene click on the tab at the bottom,
Then click map-box then click geocoding,
I put in a random postcode for instance that I am familiar with & know & it gave me the below & it’s accurate,
Bit of a faff but works from whilst your on drone scene.
Looks like you need to set up an account to use it though - quicker to go onto google maps then
I didn’t set up an account just typed as above, Rather than leave drone scene as said at the bottom but there’s probably other ways( better ways) maybe - was just showing
It’s just a link to the mapbox.com website for me? Might be misunderstanding the very clear instructions though… it’s been a long day
Same here
It works for me 101%
Sure, we can add this in for you
Agreed, seems like the ideal place for it
