Can the avata play nice with real quads?

What I find most interesting about this was that there was HDZero, Avata (O3), and an analogue quad all flying happily together… It can be done.

Thanks for the spot @Brengun and @clinkadink … No one wins against my Avata! Made of tough stuff!

Good lads playing nicely together :joy:

We had hzero, walksnail and o3 flying together on Saturday.

Hrm…this is what the Avatas did to my analogue video signal at the big meet.

It can be done, with a bit of planning, but you can’t just chuck everything up and hope it’s going to be alright.

This is the biggest driver pushing me toward digital - I’m perfectly happy with my analogue video (mostly) but as soon as there’s a few digital machines about it becomes tiresome.

Go digital mate - lots of options now too

“Go digital” isn’t the answer really (though tbh that kind of thing he shows was why I went digital anyways, and the better video quality). I felt for @Earwig at the big meet… Was no way to coordinate it, and tbh the mavic pilots don’t appreciate the problem (as @Foley well aware shortly after meeting me…). More care should be taken, as even the digital systems can take each other out, and coordination is required.

One of the most ironic things that have ever happened to me in the hobby, was my OG Mavic Mini losing connection when an analogue quad was powered up! Obviously for that kind of craft it’ll just hover and RTH safely, but for our FPV builds… Not a chance

So yeah when lot’s of people together and flying at same time, consideration needs to be taken into what each other flying, and that’s nearly impossible at something the was the big meet was setup…

TBH the point of the video wasn’t the video systems playing nicely together (was an after thought), as at end of day that’s onboard footage (but had no issues with the live FPV feed/DVR), was the ability to the craft itself, playing with real self build FPV quads (sorry Avata your’re just a safe toy!).

It was one of the main things that pushed me as well. I don’t regret the decision at all.

DJI switched on at any channel at all affected the analog signal on every other channel. It made it ugly. I’d had enough.

I agree better coordination is needed for the next big meet.

Especially as many of us sport drones that are hacked in some way or other which makes them more prone to causing this sort of issue.

I also feel sorry for Jez and being at the other end of the field wasn’t aware he’d had this problem until after the event.

It’s also one of the factors that made me change. I had a few incidents like his and also wanted more clarity when flying.

Looking at analogue Videos these days makes me wonder how I did it :joy:

Don’t worry, we’ll run HDZero on the new Low Band channels. Nothing will interfere with us then!

I knew this was coming…

Yeah but…

Whatever system you choose, you’re looking at £600+ for goggles then £100 - £200 per quad, depending on system. If I just do my 4 main quads, assuming I can find kit to fit them all, then I’m still looking at ~£1k to replace kit that already works. Absolute bottom line, I get HD0 VRX and run it into my existing goggs. saves £400, but it’s still a hefty wedge.

I know I sound like I’m complaining, but I’m honestly not. I could do it if I felt strongly enough about it, but at this moment in time it’s not something I want to invest in. Until it is, I’m happy to wait my turn.

2nd hand…

One of my HDZero VRXes was 2nd hand. My WS VRX was 2nd Hand… Both around half price.

Which is a point… I do have 2 HDZero VRXes I don’t really use much…hint, hint.

Again, if I’d felt more strongly about it, I’d have spoken up and tried to get organised. I was there for the event more than the actual flying.

Lesson learned for next time is that we need to have a system that allows all to fly and not ruin others enjoyment

I can relate. Looking to change over to digital and radio protocol.

But worried about the latency, hard to get below 50ms. I am looking starting from fresh and maybe selling my kit. Or my (most likely) run two sets of drone.

However - in terms of analogue playing nicely. I also had a few crashing at BIG MEET, mainly operator error but a few the video went similar to your video. Question: How can I play nicely with analogue - any setting or something else that would minimise the chance of me taking out another drone ?

It’s about channels. So lets say your analogue on CH1. If a HDZero, or a DJI etc was on CH1 it’d destroy your signal. Also another analogue pilot on CH1 would interfere… So when we do it, we do 1, 3, 5, 7 for example. Leave 2 spaces between is good for analogue. Digitial systems can get 8 to work well.

Of course not all channels line up… DJI have their own version of CH1 to 8…

So you want to look at channels that as far away as possible.

The mavic users aren’t aware of what they using so… Actually not looked at that 50mbps before. I tend to fly 6,7,8 (or 3 on 50MBPS) and then yith, etc fly the lower channels…

You can tell whaty channel a DJI user is using as it’s written on the side of their goggles, and easy to change (even in flight, just hit the button on the side). Why DJI changed 6,7,8 from teh R bands on analogue I have no idea. Have that printed out, and can work nicely together.

Also you’ll find some bad VTX’s (cheaper analogue ones), spew signal out over a few bands, that’s why it best to leave a gap of 2. Also the higher the power output the worse it gets. Racing will require 25mw and no more  so as not to intefere

Sorry Jez that was probably me at the other end of the field, I didn’t even know that could happen to an analogue feed from a digital DJI quad :scream:

Was that before, after or during you dropping it in the woods

Maybe them analogue quads caused it :scream: :joy:
