Just edited down my shoot from the weekend by the O2. Came out really well, I think! The hyperlapse at the end wasn’t as ‘straight’ as I’d hoped, but still looks good. I may go back and do another session in the daytime, and hang around and repeat the same waypoint missions at night to do another transition video.
As it felt very 'Blade Runner’y I thought it needed appropriately similar music. I used four batteries on this shoot, two of which were on hyperlapses. I didn’t include the hyperlapse of the city (which was a left to right pan), as to be honest the standard pans were better.
Very nice, (The) Martin. As it happens, I had been planning to attempt to use the hyperlapse function for the first time this a.m., either on courselock or waypoints, this morning over at nearby to me Richmond Park flying field…So really helpful and inspiring to also see your h/l footage towards the end of your clip.
I’ve only used waypoints. The only thing I was a little disappointed with was the sideways movement during the hyperlapse at the end. I had it on a two waypoint course, and while the second waypoint was a little higher and would have been turned slightly more to the left, I wasn’t expecting the movement I got. Perhaps the course lock would have avoided this? It wasn’t a windy day.
I find that it helps if you enlarge the video by a few percent on the timeline, and then use points on the timeline to realign one video over the other during the transition (by making it semi-transparent, so that you can line it up easier).
I was meaning the more subtle transition where the two vids are identical bar the time of day … so there’s no obvious transition … just an apparently rapid change from day to night happening during one flight.
Thank you! Yes, it was very satisfying, especially after I colour-graded it and added the sound track. I’ve watched it back a few times since! I definitely want to go back during the day to repeat some of it, and maybe also during golden hour - a three-way hyperlapse, me thinks!!
For reference, I took off from a public footpath right by the Thames, by the golf driving range. It’s a little desolate around there, tbh, so I was a little nervous walking around with a rucksack full of tech, but it was OK in the end…
As I mentioned, there was someone else just North of me flying a drone for about 20 mins, but I wasn’t close enough to go and say Hi, and was ‘mid-hyperlapse’.
Just realised that the Crane video doesn’t have the transition included. That was included in my show reel clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_h26twQRoc - you can find it at 1m 17s.
I did also find a YouTube Short that I did, but of course this is portrait style, so not as effective:
I use Adobe Premiere (PC). I get my music from Envato Elements, as I have a paid subscription, and use it for much more than just music. Editing didn’t take long, as I just apply the DJI D-LOG M to REC709 conversion LUT, hit Auto to let the software adjust the image as it thinks is best, then do some manual adjustments from there. One little trick I found with Premiere is that if you have two screens you can set the second monitor to be your output, mirroring the small output window within the app itself. That’s much easier than squinting at a little box to gauge how much difference a 1% tweak might make
I took off from a public footpath right by the Thames, by the golf driving range. (Mentioned in the thread, but I probably should have mentioned this in the initial post). What Three Words location: what3words /// The simplest way to talk about location. As I said, it’s a bit desolate around there, although there were a few joggers passing every now and again. There’s a reasonable amount of light coming from the driving range. ‘Seating’ is a bit uncomfortable though - bloody great big lumps of concrete with big knobbly bits on top!
P.S. I took a look at Google Streetview - the mass of concrete bollards that were there when I filmed are not shown, so they are clearly a recent addition…
Happy to help! I’m actually a newbie myself! Got my first drone, a Mini 4 Pro, back end of October last year, then ‘accidentally at 5am’ purchased a Neo. Had been thinking about getting a drone for years before that, but never pushed the button. Absolutely loving it, though…
Tried out hyperlapse for first time this morning (circle, course lock & waypoints). Has been interesting to see how my very tentative initial steps with the function came out when watched on my current laptop. (Btw, thanks again for your v helpful hardware spec pointers for a Windows laptop to run Davinci Resolve the other day. All of that IT spec stuff gradully becoming a bit clearer to me and my nudging towards getting an idea of some possible laptops that could do the job for me).
