Cant connect to betaflight

Anyone know how to work betaflight, i cant get it to connect to the quad it just says failed to open serial port.
Ive installed all the USB drivers it recommends, it shows up in my pc device manager as “cp2102 usb to uart bridge controller” but there is no driver installed for it.

Try this…

@Njoro , I think that really only works for DFU mode. When you’re trying to flash the FC. I think this is a more basic problem.

@supersimo1980 , usually it’s a problem with the cable. The basic connection to Betaflight usually just works… Can you post photos or video of what exactly you are plugging into on the quad?

Yeah as yith said, make sure the usb cable you are using is designed for data transfer and isn’t just a charging cable.

I’m suspicious that it is a data cable. If it wasn’t then he’d probably not see that device appear.

It is however the wrong device.

You might want to remove that cp2102 driver that you have there. It should just appear as simple COM port. i.e. this:

The tool that you need to use to do this is something called Zadig.
https://zadig.akeo.ie/

(BTW, using Zadig is also a much better solution to the DFU driver problems you can get when trying to flash FCs. ImpulseRC DriverFixer is actually a bad tool for this.)

It’s the tool I’m using with iNav 6 Win10 works like a charm….:man_shrugging:

Actually I do have Zadig but can’t remember what folder I put it in. Impulse is on my desk top… it been some years…

Having talked to a lead Open Source Developer on various FPV projects he said that he wished people did not recommend ImpulseRC Driver Fixer all the time.

I used to have all sorts of problems and had to run the driver fixer all the time.

I used Zadig on his recommendation and found that my Thrustmaster Joystick had a dodgy driver installed. Zadig removed this and I’ve never had a problem since… 6 months on and no issues at all.

Good to know, I’ll have a rampage through my folders for Zadig, I’m sure it’s the one I used to fix one of my Sims connecting Frsky TX…

sorry for the later reply, ive plugged the quad into my sons pc and in device manager it shows as “cp2102 usb to uart bridge controller” the same as it does on mine, ive tried running impulserc on both pc’s and left it running for an hour with no luck.
Has anyone got the driver details of the usb device in their decive manger, maybe i can search microsoft for that sepcific driver.
Thanks

Run Zadig… You may find you have it installed already, but the other one is being chosen instead.

What version of Windows?

That’s an odd looking USB cable… Looks to have a big chunk of extra stuff on it.

Do you have a simpler looking one?

Oh… the FC is a Cleanflight one… that’s the precursor to Betaflight.

I would look for the Cleanflight Configurator rather than the Betaflight one!

here if you need it …

cleanflight-configurator-2.0.3.zip (7.9 MB)

its one of the cables from my dji drone as i know it has data and charge

It’s always worth trying different cables when you hit problems like this…

Who knows what DJI has done!
