Cargill's Leap, Blairgowrie, Perthshire

The scene of high adventure, when a local Covenanter escaped the Redcoats by leaping across the River Erict,

Nowadays a beautiful river to explore, but watch out for the trees!

You’re braver than I am Suzanne. Too many trees and a bit of wind when I was there last year so I made do with the Osmo pocket and a camera. I did get some drone shots just up the road at Knockie Wood though.

Thanks Paul, the wind was ok yesterdy, otherwise I would have bailed myself… However losing satellites when over the water - hence the wander on one or two shots - was a little hairy, and due to the trees I could only land and take off in Sport Mode, otherwise the sensors prevented me from flying…

Wind was more of a problem at Braemar today, got some footage, but didnt dare get too close or low…

Nice one Suzanne, I’ve been there many times with the mini 2 but the trees were in full leaf which meant no sats. Was almost impossible to fly. If youre in the area for a little while then Reekie Lynn is worth a visit and only 20 minutes or so from Blairgowrie. A little further away is Buchanty Spout out near Glenalmond

Thanks Darren, we are only here until Saturday, and have the MiL with us, so I am flying when I can, but cant spend all day doing so - much as I want to… Went to Braemar yesterday, got some footage and some enroute… Edinburgh today to visit the castle, so perhaps some en route flying, although it is foggy atm… Tomorrow is Dunottar and some other bits, possibly Reekie Lynn, then Friday is Falls of Bruar, Soldiers Leap and some stuff down there…

The trees are coming into leaf, satelite connection was an issue, I lost it several times and the drone drifted sideways, but thankfully I kept it slow, just in case…

Well if you’re going to Edinburgh you’ll need to stop at the bridges!!!
Reekie Lynn is good, although a little nerve racking. It’s a short trip and a short 5 minute walk from carpark, which also has picnic benches/tables. So if the weather is decent, just tell MiL you’re going for a picnic in the sun

I stay in Blair Atholl several times a year, Bruar Falls is within walking distance and is worth a visit. Try not to spend a fortune in The House of Bruar. It’s not known as 'the Harrods of the North ’ for nothing. Their coffee is very good and you can get a decent snack for a reasonable price. Bonus points if you can find the 3-D printed fairy house near the lower bridge left by my sister.

I’ve been to the castle and Royal Mile today, bridges are hidden by the fog, so no flying, but lots of gimbal footage of the Royal Mile and castle, so perhaps a walking video may be forthcoming…

Hmm, slippery nerve-wracking paths, good scenario for the MiL to have a dive and swim perhaps? Only joking, we do lover her to bits, honest

Yup, have done Falls before, got some cracking footage there 2 years ago, but want to fly it with the AVATA this time and get a new perspective, as well as perhaps some other woodlands and rivers, Soldiers Leap and other areas that we find… Will look out for the fairy house when we go, either tomorrow or Friday…

MacKays chippy is always good there - as is the one in Pitlochery - and some of their bargain stuff can be good value, the MiL found a lovely top reduced to a reasonable price, and hubby found 4 work shirts a few years back - great quality and reduced 3 times, form £50 to £7.50 - needless to say the Yorkshireman emptied the rack of his size…

We always load up a cool box full of stuff to bring home when we’re there. Bruar’s steak square sausage is brilliant. You’re right about McKay’s, we always go at least once when we’re over. Glen Tilt in Blair Atholl is worth a visit if you have time.
