Carmel College, Mongewell Park near Wallingford

I’ve been intrigued about Carmel College in Mongewell Park near Wallingford for some time. It’s an old Jewish boarding school that closed in 1997, and is still largely abandoned and semi-derelict in places. It’s on a fantastic site next to the Thames, and parts of the site are still used and lived in. Visitors are usually repelled swiftly, but it was fun to get an overview from the air. I flew from the footpath over the Thames as it’s difficult from within the park.

Some useful history

I’ve flown here @BingBong a lot of history there.

Your Drone Scene entry was useful thanks @Kirky. Yes, a lot of history, not all of it good. I wanted to walk down to North Stoke again, and thought Carmel would be worth a look from over the river on the way. Rather lush vegetation!

Did you not take a walk within the grounds ?
Very erie indeed.

No, I was the other side of the river. I’ve snooped there before I got the drone, but didn’t get very far. Apparently some people have got permission to look around, but no idea who you’d ask. Many reports of the grumpy caretaker chucking people out unceremoniously. They’ve had lots of urbex types trying it on, not all sensible. Must have another try.

I done a bit of research as probably yr self, I parked out on the lane & TOAL’D from the church ruins, but before I flew, I drove on to the sight & just walked around the whole of the place, wasn’t really anyone around tbh, just had a casual stroll with the intrigued attitude call it, so I did manage to get up close to all of it, if I was approached & asked to leave, I would have said yes no problem,
I only took that approach on going on site as there’s a small documentary call it on YouTube,
The guy was quite happily walking around & stated at the time of the video, he believed there was a few people living their possibly immigrants or squatters if I can remember rightly, I’ll try & find the link. I also don’t think he got permission either, so yes I wouldn’t have a clue who to ask either.

Here’s one of the videos, I watched a couple, but this has content.

Cheers, I’d just started watching it. I’m not sure it’s necessary to remove the link, as the abuse is well known.

Sorry Bruce, yes I know, I’ve put it back, I know we know what we know about it & there is no offending content, it was just those red letters looked alarming to maybe those who don’t know,
Apologies :+1:t2:

Thanks, a very useful tour of the site, even if he didn’t know much about it. As said in the comments below the video, they are unlikely to be squatters. Many of them have recycling bins! Quite a bit of filming goes on there, so some of them could be preparing sets and living on site. Not much chance of urbex dragging a dog around, but helped to get a feel of the site thanks.

Yes I did clock that, :+1:t2:
