Can anyone recommend a cheap, mini drone to use to practise indoors during the crap weather?
One with a camera would be best.
Cheers,
Philip
I know you say cheap what’s your budget ? Any brands in mind or have you had a browse yet with anything in mind ?
I am only looking for something cheap and cheerful so no more than £50
Have you had a look on Amazon ? I’ve personally never owned a cheapy call it, but I just put it in on the search bar Amazon app cheap drone with camera & there’s a fair few on there for your budget although I’m not familiar with any of them but maybe worth look & read the reviews ? That would be my guess unless someone pops along here who is familiar with a drone of that & could advise further, I’m guessing it also depends how quickly you want it as with Amazon you can pretty much get it much next day & are good for returns if needed, or some of the other cheap shopping apps like temu which would probably be even cheaper but then you would have to wait longer for delivery …
Edit : reviews not too bad,
I bought an eachine 58, many moons ago from Bangood.
Not a bad little machine once calibrated and props fitted correctly.
Camera quality as you would expect on a 40 quid drone. But should keep you busy until the weather picks up.
Thanks to both of you
I ordered one of these and will let you know what its like.
Okie dokes good luck, if it’s totally no good just return it rather than be cash down,
Hopefully all be good as can be
Problem with cheapo drones is that the controls are so poor (in the sense of being on/off, full speed or nothing) that there is very little that you can learn from them that translates to outdoor flying with a ‘proper’ drone. You cannot properly control speed. Few if any can hover steadily, they drift, and it is easy to get into a cycle of overcorrections that make crashing inevitable.
Make sure you get one with full, all-round, propguards.
For indoor use I’d certainly recommend something with propeller guards. I only work with DJI drones, so the cheapest there will be the Neo, starting at £169. (You may find it discounted by a tenner every now and again).
My neighbour’s son has a ‘cheapy’ drone, and he was complaining that it was virtually unflyable in any sort of wind. While that won’t affect you indoors, I wonder whether it would be similar to @TheJohnster comments regarding controls in general.
It’s true to say that you get what you pay for. I started with the Mini 4 Pro, but also bought a Neo. Despite its size it has proven itself to be a very, very capable drone with a great deal of functionality for the price.
If the cheapy drone turns out not to be so good, you may want to consider returning it and spending a bit more to get something that will do a very good job.
Maybe have a look around on Ebay for a Telo - its a DJI / Intel drone that you use your phone but you can get a bluetooth controller for your phone to give it a bit more of a true drone like flying experiance.
it was my first drone and an impressive bit of kit for indoors. They were really made as educational drones for development and STEM leason’s - collages used them for programming etc
Found this one for a decent £60 DJI TELLO Mini Drone FPV 5MP Camera & Intel Processor - 8D Flips & Tricks | eBay
Do recommend getting some extra batteries as flight time is not great but it will flip and do tricks - fun thing - sort of miss mine
I recently bought a mini drone 4drc-v2 just to practice being able to fly in ‘atti’ mode (indoors and very close by to me outdoors). Has an HD camera for selfies although I havent bothered to set the camera function up to work with my phone. Paid c.£17 which included p&p etc from a private seller selling it online pretty much as new. (As it has a camera and is not deemed a toy obviously needed to stick my operator ID on it). Hope that’s helpful.
Good shout on the Tello, I don’t think there’s a better drone at that price point
Thanks for all your advice.
The cheapo will be hear on Monday, and to be honest I am not expecting to much from it.
However; I hope it scratches the itch to fly when the weather is crap.
As soon as I spent a bit of time with it I will let you all know.
