The press releases for Europe are mentioning the Mavic 3 (full big-on beast) is C1

Avata?

Hi.
I am lead to believe that the current rules and regulations for drones comes to a finish at the end of this year and new rules and regulations come into force. Does anyone know yet what these changes may be. Are they likely to be small tweaks or big changes that will make a big difference. I did try and phone the CAA but was unable to speak to someone at the time.

@Gary.at.IOW I’ve move your post here, lots of speculation to catch up on

Thanks for directing me here @PingSpike

Ok go easy with me people……I’m new lol

Am I right in thinking that currently The Mavic 3 flies in the A2 transitional class until 31/12/22 and then after that date it will then move to the A3 class ?

I’m sorry, I have googled and read loads of articles but I think I’ve read so much that it’s turned it in to a huge thing in my head that makes no sense

Did you not at least read this thread?

Come on dude… you’ve got to put some leg work in :grimacing:

TL;DR:

  • There are no classes.

  • There will be no classes in nine weeks time either.

If you only read one post in this thread @Rolo - make it this one:

Sorry mate I did read that but I saw that it was a recommendation and didn’t know if that had been agreed or not as I couldn’t find the outcome. I’ll go read some more :+1:

Bottom line @Rolo - there are no changes happening in two months time.

Many thanks @PingSpike
I’ve been battering my head with rules and regs all day for the A2CofC whilst trying to program 20 odd robots at work and think I’ve overloaded / frazzled my brain

Thanks for your help :+1:

We’re in the UK, Alex…

They could print the number 42 on there for all the CAA care

I know and that’s the funny thing about it, it still doesn’t mean much

It’s maybe worth being clear:

  • the class mark system is live in the UK regulations and has been since Brexit.
  • so far as we know there are no class mark certifications issued by any body notified by the CAA.

I think the situation is less clear than people think it is. And there are still two months in which the government can issue amended regulations to extend the legacy period anyway.

Which in itself is ironic, as this new classification system was intended to remove ambiguity and confusion … not make it worse.

It was bad enough this time 2 years ago, when they changed the UK rules (after several delays). At least for newbies (like me at the time) getting into the hobby. But ‘this’ must be adding even more confusion to the new folk’s plate.

Under the European ruling to get the C1 class mark it has to have the following…

“When ActiveTrack, an Intelligent Flight mode which enables users to select a person or object for the drone to automatically follow, is on, operating distance is limited to 50 meters. Beyond that, ActiveTrack will be disabled.”

Do you think they have included the UK in this? I bet they have.

I 100% guarantee that when the C1-marked Mavic 3 classic is available in the UK people will just look at the mark, check online what that allows you to do, and fly it accordingly. And good luck to any copper or court that wants to sort out why that’s not allowed, when the UKCA mark is also prominently displayed.

But but but… it also has a CE mark :scream:

(So must be legit, right?)
