You were lucky.They usually attack and in sea you would have lost drone
What drone model is it.

Getting close to nesting season, which is when they get particularly aggressive if they think you’re threatening their nest/eggs/chicks

Absolutely! As a coastal flyer this is certainly a hazard for me. Sports mode is the way to go if it comes on top!!!

Yeh, I found the seagulls much more aggressive while I was out yesterday, and also that if a seagull does go for your drone, the easiest counter is to gain altitude; they will try to keep up with the drone in horizontal separation but give up much quicker for vertifcal separation it seems.

Young 'uns around, more wary of the unknown.

Vertical separation will confuse many birds. I had a close call with a Kestrel a number of months ago. Sports mode and vertical - it soon gave up.
