Codnor Castle, Derbyshire

Stumbled upon this castle ruin, whilst having a look around the local area in Google maps.

I’ve lived in the same town for my entire life and never knew this was only 10 miles away.

Codnor Castle is a ruined 13th-century castle in Derbyshire, England. The land around Codnor came under the jurisdiction of William Peverel after the Norman conquest. The building is registered as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, a Grade II Listed Building and is officially a Building at Risk.

Did you have to walk up from the village?

If you’re lucky you can park around 1/2 mile away on the dirt track road leading up to the castle.
There’s an old derelict pub about 3/4 mile from castle, where there is space to park
