Compass calibration

I only calibrate when it asks for it … same goes for the IMU

I get asked quite a lot by my Mavic Air to recalibrate compass. I just do it and it seems happy afterwards. As a rule if I change country it will certainly ask me to have the compass recalibrated too.

Ah ha - another Mavic Air user that gets frequently asked. Not just me then.

I’ve found the MP prompts after travelling a long distance (like a holiday flight) I guess because the earth’s magnetic field changes. I only re-calibrate when prompted, but I now tend to do a calibration session when arriving somewhere - easier to do it somewhere controlled rather than when in a rush to fly

I’d probably agree. My MP travels have been western Europe where nothing much changes in the earth’s magnetic field.

But if I was travelling further afield, I’d try to anticipate the potential need from that and, as you say, check if needed before I’m in a rush to launch.

Edit: That chart is from 2010 … things change slowly, but I’ll try and find a more up-to-date version.

Edit: Image replaced by very hi-res 2019 version. :+1:

that looks technical, never seen that before, admittedly never looked for it either. :grinning::grinning:

I get told to do it every single time I power it up (for the first time). Am I doing something wrong?:thinking:

Every single flight for me . Always have done from back in the Phantom days .

by the looks of it its a preference thing, some do some don’t.

I was told to redo everyflight but someone said they haven’t since first time

i guess it’s your preference.

If flying commercially just another thing to say to cover your arse if anything does go wrong

I am calibrating mine every time now.
So if I had a problem at least I can go to the insurance company and say that I did it.
