is it possible to connect a DJI drone to two rc2 controllers. I have a mini 5 arriving tomorrow and it would be useful to have the option of taking one controller for two drones or one for each drone if possible depending on the circumstances.
Yes, just follow the steps when you boot up the controller. I have my Mini 4 Pro & Air 3s on the same RC2 controller and it was something to do with having the firmware versions downloaded via the Fly App. I can’t remember how i exactly did it! ![]()
I think the 1st time you switch the controller to another drone it downloads the appropriate firmware for it after which you can flip back and forth without having to wait for the download.
One controller : two drones is straightforward. The controller just needs the resources for each drone.
The original question was one drone : two controllers, which can’t happen simultaneously - the two controllers would fight for control of the drone. The only way one drone : two controllers could work is by re-pairing the drone with each controller every time the controller was swapped.
I tried this when I received my air 3s (could only get it with rc2 on refurbished), when it arrived I was excited and couldn’t wait to get going, so connected to my already charged, existing controller I use for my mini 4 pro, no issue.
However a day or two later I tried to connect it to the new controller that it came with and it wasn’t having it, could only do so if I removed it (wasn’t clear what, air 3s or controller), from my account so I could connect to the other controller, and if I did care and refresh would cease.
So now I have air 3s & mini 4 pro on the one controller and I 've linked my Neo to the new one.
I was hoping I could use both controllers with all my compatible drones and swap as necessary eg battery leve etc.
Thank you @bryand and @Seadog, I was hoping to be able to connect my new mini 5 to both controllers but clearly that’s a no go. Good to know about the care package not transferring too. Not sure what to connect to now
I never tried to connect two controllers to the mini….although I have the RC2 connected to it, and then i have connected it to the Goggles 3 and then used both the rc2 and the motion controllers (not simultaneously). The only drone that allowed two controllers simulatenously was the DJI Mavic pro. It allowed for two controllers simultaneously….I think the second one was for a second person to control the camera in case the primary person could not. I hope that helps.
Quote a few do it, heres Billy explaining (not seen a Billy video in a while)
Welcome by the way @Multani, it looks as though you’re quite new here ![]()
Why not nip over to the Introductions page, and say hello properly and tell us a bit about yourself. ![]()
I’m not talking simultaneously, I mean if I go out for a day it doesn’t matter which controller I pick up. My Mavic 2 pro easily switches between controllers I have original & Smart (when you know how thanks @stevesb ).
But these are the same type of controller (rc2). And it’s not just a firmware switchover, like swapping between mini 4 pro & air 3 s), The one controller is tied to that drone and you can’t change it .
Hi, it’s not that I want to use them simultaneously, more that I want to go out with two drones and one controller (to fly one at a time) most of the time just to reduce the baggage when out. I can fit my Flip and Mini 5 Pro plus batteries and one controller in a DJI More bag. There will be the odd time when a friend will be with me and would like to have my drones on separate controllers in those instances. According to DJI customer services I can move drones between compatible controllers with no issues and care refresh is attached to the drone serial number so that will not be a problem ( still took screenshots of the conversation, just in case
)
