Surely a simple email for approval prevents any legal issues. ![]()
Sure, I am going to try that next week - the specific NOTAM that’s blocking me expires tomorrow and I want to see if it is renewed before I contact the CAA.

The Southampton TDA is supposed to expire tomorrow at midnight… Who knows. ![]()
Edit … Here we go again. ![]()

I seem to have slipped out of the trust level to edit titles… could somebody please do me a favour and add the ‘s’ to Responder in the title here? It keeps making me wince

You better contact the CAA as it’s been renewed.
Positive reply from AROps in less than 10 minutes. I have pasted it and my request in case that is helpful. I will let folks know if anything happens, like contact from “the Sponsor of EGD298B”.
===== AROps response =========
Your request to operate VLOS not above 400ft within EGD298B is approved; the Sponsor of EGD298B will contact you if they deem it necessary.
Please maintain a good lookout for BVLOS quadcopter activity for which EGD298B has been established.
Permission to enter EGD298B does not remove the requirement for authorisation/permissions of any Enhanced Non-Standard Flight requirements to operate in any other FRZs or Controlled Airspace and these should be sought via the usual channels
===== My reques to AROps =========
I request permission to fly a small drone (160 grams) to a height of 300 feet in or near the following location:
Earlsdon Ave N
Coventry CV5 6HE
52.404524, -1.535219
between 10AM and 3PM on March 12, 2026.
This location is currently subject to a NOTAM: Temporary Danger Area (TDA EGD298B).
Many thanks for your consideration.

Fingers crossed for good weather on the 12th. — Stephen
Outstanding.
Thanks for the update
EDIT:
They mention contacting you. Did you give them your digits or is it just email?
I wonder if you have to ask on a day to day basis or request a block book of days?
Good question. I will check this out later in the month.
I was very impressed by the speed of the response but I wonder how this process will scale if more people get into droning — just this morning I got chatting to a chap filming an historic construction project in Coventry city centre with a handheld camera. I casually mentioned I’d love to get some drone footage. He said he was about to get a drone. So then I had to say - cool, but you will need ask the Civil Aviation Authority for permission to film this, because we are in the middle of a NOTAM.
Interesting to see if the legalities of droning hamper growth of the hobby, or the hobby shapes public policy decisions around UAV regulation.
