Cross Fell Summit

Does anyone know anything about the history of the cross on Cross Fell Summit, Photo take with Mavic Air 2

Found this on google , I’ve never heard of it myself someone here might have

St Augustine of Canterbury is said to have blessed the hill when he arrived here on his travels so it became known as Cross Fell in the Christian tradition , although it has been speculated that the fell became known as Cross Fell (“cross” meaning “angry”) because of the evil spirits.

It’s a wind shelter. Built that way so it doesn’t matter which way the wind is blowing, you’ll always have some protection.

Similar one at the summit of Helvellyn in the Lake District , best spots were always taken by the time I got up there :rofl:
