Crowle Disused Viaduct

Anyone know what the meteorological explanation is??? It’s not lens flare…

Lens flare often appears in photographs as circles or rings that emanate from the light source. These visible spots, or artifacts, are called ghosting.

I don’t think it’s flare. I could see the phenomenon with my own eyes.

In that case, I agree. Perhaps a halo then …

A halo is a ring or light that forms around the sun or moon as the sun or moon light refracts off ice crystals present in a thin veil of cirrus clouds. The halo is usually seen as a bright, white ring although sometimes it can have color.

Works for me - There is some faint colour visible in the photo. Later on it did rain, so maybe that had something to do with it. Moisture in the air…

Yes, I’ve seen these before but more often the Luna Halo.

Well, thank you for that - I’ve just been reading a bit more about sundogs. I love learning new things…
