Let me start by saying, I apologize if this is the wrong section to pose this question.
For a while now, I’ve been trying to resurrect my Mavic Air. I’ve gone through and updated all the firmware but now when I try to connect the drone, the software tells me to use the DJI Go 4 app. However, when I do my controller doesn’t seem to be able to connect to my old Mavic Air.
Is DJI Go 4 what people are actually using to fly the Mavic Air?
Is there third party software that works with the Mavic Air?
Is Litchi an option that will work to just fly the drone if you’re not interested in flying way points?
Again, I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this. I’ve done several searches not only in this group but internet in general and can’t seem to get a clear answer.
No other DJI app can be used for the Mavic Air.
Litchi should work.
Yes. It can be used exactly like Go4.
But if the controller isn’t connecting to the drone, different software won’t solve the issue.
Have you tried the re-pairing procedure?
When you upgrade your firmware on the aircraft did you upgrade the controller too?
This from Heliguy:
Updating the Firmware with DJI GO 4 - DJI Mavic Air
Step by step guide on how to update the DJI Mavic Air using the DJI Go 4 app.
Keeping your DJI Mavic Air up to date ensures optimal performance, stability, and access to the latest features. This guide will walk you through the firmware update process using DJI GO 4.
The same steps apply to updating the battery and remote controller—just make sure all devices have at least 50% battery before starting.
Instructions
- Power on your DJI Mavic Air and connect to the DJI Go 4 app.
- Launch DJI Go 4.
- Click the top bar that says a new firmware is available.
- Click download now.
- Wait for the firmware to update.
- When the update is complete, click “ok”.
- Restart your aircraft. If another update is needed, follow the previous steps.
Now, I understand you can’t connect controller to the aircraft. Try using your mobile and controller together to upgrade the controller.
The latest firmware for the original Mavic Air is v01.00.0620, released in 2023, as it is no longer supported by DJI as of January 1, 2025. To update, use the DJI GO 4 app and follow the prompts to download and install the updates, or use DJI Assistant 2 on a computer for a manual update.
Linking the controller and aircraft
Litchi can be used simply to control the aircraft. Select FPV mode and you have all the functionality of DJI GO4. You also have the benefit of a powerful waypoint setup with autonomous flights that can be preplanned and tested at home or constructed on the fly (sorry!) in the field.

Thanks for answering the questions. The controller is connecting now (don’t know why it wouldn’t before). I will probably give Litchi a try.
