Hi
I’m new to drones and own a D8
We have calibrated the gyro + gps and unlocked the controller however there is no connection between drone and controller the blades won’t turn the camera works fine but cannot fly it the motors are not turning any advice would be really appreciated after a week of trying without success I’ve included pics to help identify any advice will help release the stress
Thanks all
Victoria
Is it this drone?
Yes its that 1 i just dont seem to be able to get a connection on any wifi that joins the controller and the drone
To be truthfully honest Vicky, it’s a very cheap toy and I wouldn’t waste to much time on it
The internet is full of these cheap crap drones and the ones that do manage to take off generally never come back
I don’t have any experience of the drone but a search finds the following to pair the drone to the controller prior to the calibration.
Hope this helps
Hi Vicky, Look in the instructions for something that tells you how to arm the motors. Quadcopters dont usually just start when you push the stick up as those propellers can bite, so manufacturers usually have a step you do that activates the motors each time you fly, just to be sure you really are trying to take off. A common ‘arming’ move is to push both sticks on the controller down and inwards towards each other for a moment - but it should say specifically what to do in the instructions. When you do arm it, make sure it is on a flat surface, outside and you stand away from it - do not hold it in your hand to “test” like I said those propellers bite!
Hi @VickyJ have you got the issue sorted? The drone id bought of amazon a few months ago wouldnt connext to my phone using their app at first. I tried turning off combinations of mobile data and just trying wifi then turning it back on. It seemed to help. I hope that makes sense
Still trying to connect the drone to the controller abnd app
Hi it does show how to unlock the motors however it doesnt respond to the controller
Hi all thanks for help and information ive now successfully flown the d8 but only with gps turned off my question now is do i need gps and what difference would it make ?
To be honest @VickyJ ive not been flying for long and dont have enough experience to answer but i guess it depends on what your trying to acheive with the drone. It shouldnt change the experience of getting out there and having some fun learning to fly. You going out today?
Gps will make your drone more stable in flight & is good practice to make sure you have a good gps lock / satellite lock so it holds its position for a stable flight, less chance of it flying away never to be seen again or even crashing it
More experienced pilots some times fly without gps on, this is called Atti mode & the drone is harder to control unless you know what your doing id avoid it at all costs, it’s always best to try & get a good gps lock,
As said above especially if your new to drones / beginner I strongly advise to leave gps on,
I don’t know much about the brand of drone you have but did you fly it turning off the gps yourself ? or was there just no gps full stop ?
I turned the gps off as with it on the rotar blades wouldnt start id prefer to fly it with but it only seems to connect with it off theres just no motor power whatsoever when gps is activated and you try to start the blades
Ah ok, as said above I know nothing about the brand of this drone not a lot on Google either other than they seem like a cheap gimmicky toy ( please no disrespect ) if I were you id return it if you can or at worst just bin it & start again sorry to say,
However not sure what your intentions are as to where drones are concerned be it just a five minute wonder / laugh or actually you’d like to try & get in to the hobby, based on that & if you want something that works & less the headache have a look for a cheap DJI mini 2 fantastic drone to say the least, you can find these at bargain prices but also depending if you have a budget for one, if you find a good second hand one not over priced I’m sure if you decided the hobby wasn’t for you id have near to no doubt you’d pretty much get your money back if you decided to resale in good working condition or as you bought it, this is my best advice & sorry the other one is giving you more aggro than what it’s worth !
Thanks
Im wheelchair dependent so its def a hobby to fill lots of time with my partner ive done the caa test and registered so yes id like to continue developing the hobby thanks for your input its much appreciated
Fantastic !
Great you’ve done the test & registered at least that’s one positive ticked off the list
There’s sometimes some real good bargains in the for sale thread on here, also a good Benifit as you get a good honest description & honest sellers / members rather than some of the second hand false promises & scams you get on eBay or gumtree so if you do go looking just be carful !
Also there’s a great bunch on here that are always willing to help so if your not sure just ask,
Best wishes moving forward with the hobby
Thanks for all the help and advice hope you have great flying experiences as well
Were you trying to fly indoors or outdoors with the gps enabled?
