Is studio the paid version? Never used it before but will give the free version a spin

Yup.

Mainly esoteric and AI things are all that’s missing from the free version.

It’s a HUGE (8gb d/l) and very powerful program .. but does everything.

UI takes some people a bit of learning - but for me has been well worth the time/effort investment.

Somewhere near the beginning of the v19 thread there’s a YT link to a LONG introduction to all the main features. Worth investing the time with that. Some things will have changed since - slightly - but mainly in the less used areas, so still very relevant.

The free version is only 2.7GB and downloaded in 14 seconds

Yes - the AI stuff has added to it considerably - but hadn’t realised there was THAT much difference! :scream:

I will have a play with the free version, I don’t need fancy things, music is normally the issue, so long as they provide free tracks it’ll do me fine

They don’t. This is VERY pro editor oriented.

Capcut is probably better for that.

So how does the free or paid version provide music tracks?

You find the music you want to use and import it.

Ok I currently use Bensound for free tracks

This was the tutorial I was referring to .. longer ago than I realised (v18.6).. but as a COMPLETE introduction, I’ve not seen a better one and as an introduction to DR, still very relevant.

Introduction to DaVinci Resolve - [Full Course] for Beginners (2024)

At 4 hrs 39 mins it’s no lightweight … but it is comprehensive and it is aimed at beginners, and doesn’t do more than mention some of the more esoteric feature where needed.

Cheers will give it a go, 5hrs wow

Best part of - yeah - and it’s an “introduction” only.

@yorkie9668 Dont forget Mark, DR is a memory hungry beast that eats up storage. I use render cashe to get it to run smooth and I have a 12th Gen i7 chip, RTX GPU and 16gb Ram.

You can save your cashe files to an external drive, dont use your main computer storage other than for the software and project backup!

PS, Always use the render cashe option on final render of a project too, as it will make a massive difference in final render time.

Turn render cache off and then proxy file them and it runs smooth and not having 10s of gigs worth in cache only like 5gb max for proxy files
I need to update my pc as its stuff from 2017/2018 lol so studio struggles to do anything other than the bare basic edit

@Airlessmean I’ve used proxies before, Micky, but found the cashe better for final rendering and easier to manipulate using AI retime etc. They don’t clog my system up as I use a temporary Crucial 1T SSD connected to my Thunderbolt USB C for media, editing and cashe file locations. Just remap in the System setup at start of project. Once all done I transfer all my media and rendered video to my 5TB WD Elements drive for archiving.

Clear the Crucial drive and start again!

Major problem here. Accepted the upgrade to 20 from 19 and it says it can’t run in CUDA mode as my NVIDIA driver is incompatible (???). I have just shelled out to have the computer re vamped to run 19 and now this. Any ideas?

Check there aren’t newer drivers for the GPU .. is always a good start.

Otherwise it’s uninstall v20 and reinstall v19. (Hopefully you have a backup of your v19 projects, because once opened in v20 they can’t be accessed with v19.)

.. or another computer upgrade.

I had to download some Nvcidia control centre app and install a driver - so far so good. I literally bricked it for a minute.
