Digital FPV.....DJI vs HDZero vs Orqa vs Walksnail vs openhd.....?

So maybe caddx can make some quality hdzero cameras :man_shrugging:

Whats the runcam link? That the same as a vista? As new to DJI (what a great choice… hmmm), only bought one vista. Might need to order another 1 or 5!.. hmmmm

Its @BigDog I’m worried about. Nick goes through them like props

It’s a product of modern day consumerism, spurned on by a manufacturer’s need to sell the latest and greatest. The DJI stuff is sort of unique as it goes EOL so quickly. The V2 goggles were released in the first quarter of 2021, and as far as DJI are concerned they have become obsolete in the third quarter of 2022. I find this sickening as it shows no respect for their customer base and the not inconsiderable financial investment they have made. Also, as a tree hugging hippy / death metal / grind core, kind of person, I find this extremely wasteful and environmentally caustic.

Possibly this is unique to Chinese manufacturer’s? I have a fairly advanced amateur radio set from a Japanese manufacturer. It was released in 2000, and was in production until 2017. During those 17 years the same manufacturer produced more advanced products using newer technology, but my radio was still being made because there was a market for it. Now five years since it was discontinued I can still get full manufacturer support for it, both hardware and software.

The same can be said of the last digital SLR I bought back in 2010.

DJI are all for cutting there own nose off just to spite their own face. This is obvious by their separation from Caddx. But they will only be able to do this for so long as it’s inevitable they will at some point no longer be top dog if they don’t learn to play with others. Kodak, Nokia, Erricson, Blackberry, to name a few, are all examples of companies that thought they were top dogs in their industry and too big to fail.

That 4th cylinder kicked in, eh?

Consumerism will be the death of us all. :skull_and_crossbones: Hopefully the oncoming “financial squeeze” will help me stop buying shit I don’t need.

In the meantime, I’d best stock up on plastic propellers, along with keeping all the broken ones to make sure they don’t end up in landfill/the sea. Hey ho…

I repurpose mine into wire protectors when building a new quad :+1:t2:

Well ordered another Vista, nebula pro, not sure where it’s going, but nice to have at least one spare

The Runcam Link is exactly the same unit as a Vista. It is manufactured by DJI and supplied to Runcam just the same as with Caddx. The only difference is the camera. I dont know how good the cameras are as never used one or seen anyone else using one. I suspect not as good as the Caddx cameras as if they were they would be more popular

I should add that you can even swap the cameras. A Caddx camera works with a Link unit and a Runcam Link camera works with a Vista

From CaddxFPV

Dear Pilots,

DJI decided to stop cooperating with CADDX, here we express our understanding of any their decision.

CADDXFPV and DJI cooperated at a very special circumstance, vista is a CADDX-defined product authorized by DJI. We are very grateful for the two years of cooperation with DJI and their support to us. The cooperation between CADDXFPV and DJI is a win-win process. Thanks to DJI for improving the brand influence of CADDXFPV, CADDXFPV has also made big effort to assist in promoting FPV HD digital system. In 2021, DJI stopped production of air unit cameras due to sanctions. CADDXFV, as a small company, took great risks and purchased 200000pcs sensor & IC from ON Semiconductor, packaged chips by ourselves, so as to continue production of air unit and vista kit, until now, we still have a large inventory of chips. At the same time, we helped to take over the millions of DJI’s inventory of material.

The exclusive agreement between CADDXFPV and DJI has already expired, and the market strategies of both companies are no longer restricted. DJI is free to bring in new agents, and CADDX is free to develop own product. As the production of the old generation of air unit products will be discontinued, and DJI’s new system no longer opened the camera to us, we could no longer do anything for the new DJI system, we decided to develop our own AVATAR system.

Caddxfpv has experienced great challenges through cooperation with large companies like DJI, and it is also in such challenges that we have grown a lot. In the past two years, we have encountered many out-of-stock situations, but what hurts us more is that we got many feedback and suggestions from pilots, however, the needs and suggestions of the pilots cannot be satisfied. Seeing the complaints and helplessness of the pilots, we can’t do anything.

We can fully understand the difficulty of handling any change as a large company like DJI, we also don’t want to see the needs of pilots ignored, that’s why we strengthened our determination to focus on FPV field. We understand that only by developing our own products and possessing our own core technology can we provide users with better products and services, and the feedback and opinions of customers can be truly adopted and the products can be continuously improved.

Therefore, Caddxfpv has been working hard to invest in research and development, although we already know that this choice will meet a lot of challenges, but we will firmly invest. Caddx and walksnail will bring many excellent new products to the FPV community in the near future, such as the action camera which pilots want, and the 1S 1080p VTX, FPV 4K recording VTX etc, let’s looks forward together, we believe that our efforts will not let the FPV community disappointed.

Finally, thank you all for your support to CADDXFPV all the time, and hope that you can continue to support us. At this moment, your support is our motivation to move forward.

Thanks and Best Regards

CADDXFPV TEAM

I suspected that might be the case

Wow. Some effort will go into this. Wonder how many channels it will take up.

All of them

Well, dji certainly shifted the game. Just a shame they’ve shafted the community

Gonna need alot more onboard storage than the 8GB on the current VTX’s

Are you thinking of buying into it yet?

I wont be buying into the new V3 system regardless of how good it is after this shafting :face_with_raised_eyebrow: I think DJI will struggle with there new system from existing pilots

Im going to wait it out for as long as I can, its not quite there yet and I still want to see how these HDZero goggles turn out. Theyve said they will develop a seperate VRX so that might be a better option with the HDZero goggles. Could run analogue, HDZero and Walksnail that way with the added benefit of if one of them goes under still have the other options without having to completely reinvest again

Mmm sounds good to me

To be honest, hdzero is great for a race because you can get as many pilots up as possible. Its also good long range.

But when you’re long range, you want to be the only one in the air with a brilliant image and you’re not to concerned with latency (though fixed would be nice).

I’d like to see a full bandwidth mode to walksnail. In a vrx pluggable into the upcoming hdzero goggles. A modular system has always been the fpv way of things
