Hi, I’d appreciate any thoughts you might have on the following dilemma… Should I part with £369 for a replacement Mavic Air 2 with DJI Care Refresh, or put it towards a new drone? I have the MA2 fly more combo and all the time I’m ummming and errring about whether the transitional period will be extended or C marked drones will come on the market… I’m not flying TIA
Sell the fly more kit and put it towards a mini 2 combo or if you can stretch to it a mini 3, then you won’t have to worry about c ratings in the future.
I agree in part with @stevesb above. Personally I’d forego the care refresh, use that money towards a Mini2/3, and keep the MA2.
I’m of the mindset that if you fly in hostile areas you should expect to crash, like swimming in shark infested waters you should expect to get eaten. I don’t fly in areas I would consider to be hazardous so I’ve never bothered with care refresh. In the ten plus years I’ve been flying I’ve only crashed one camera drone, it wasn’t a DJI Drone and it was my fault because I failed to do a proper preflight check. The repair was simple as it only involved a replacement prop and motor, and some fastening’s.
@Nidge i read it that it was to replace an air2 , like you i wouldn’t bother with care refresh, i would double check my house insurance, it can come under camera equipment, or use a by flight insurance such as coverdrone or an anual policy.
If I were to make a claim that would be my recourse. Usually such a claim is “like for like” if a repair cannot be made. So if I were to claim for my Spark, if it couldn’t be repaired, it’s current replacement would most likely be the Mini2.
I’ve only made one claim in 30yrs on my contents insurance and that was for a piece of test equipment that I accidently pushed of the end of the table. It was deemed an uneconomical repair and the insurance company replaced it with a newer more advanced model. Surprisingly my premium was not affected at all.
Thanks. Yes, it’s a replacement claim already with DJI Care refresh; I don’t have the drone. No other drone insurance but I’ll check the home insurance. I’m happy with the MA2 for what I need. Just wondering if a £369 punt on the transition period being extended in 7 months is worth it
As there’s no sign of c marked drones on the horizon, it looks like the extension may get extended quite some more…
I just heard the the CAA has recommended to Department for Transport to extend the deadline for Transitional categories for a very long period of time. Look for a specific thread on the topic elsewhere in these forums.
Hope this helps.
Thanks all for your comments. With the extension to legacy drones looking more than likely, replacing the MA2 is back on the table.
