DJI Care Refesh or Insurance or both…?

Hi all,
Just picked up a brand-new DJI Air 3S — still factory-fresh and never flown. It wasn’t exactly a bargain buy, so I’m trying to be sensible about protecting it. I know accidents happen… and yes, some drones decide to go on a permanent holiday.

I already have a Mini 3 Pro, which I insure through Coverdrone at £4/day whenever I fly. For the Air 3S, DJI Care Refresh comes in at £165 for two years. Is that a better deal than paying per-flight insurance?

Not really a money issue — I’m more interested in what gives the best real-world cover if something goes wrong. And if I do take the DJI Care package, is there still any point in having flight insurance on top?

Thanks in advance for any wisdom

Pete

Make sure that your coverdrone insurance is not just 3rd party and it actually covers the drone. Of late I have seen a few people not knowing what the insurance covers. ( 3rd party only covers the 3rd parties property - just like car insurance )

I would also check who they recommend does the repairs. The great thing about the DJI refresh is its all managed via DJI - they send you the labels and you just print everything out and depending it can be picked up or you drop it off and in a few days you have a return.

If your a fully paid member here and have the insurance here ( 3rd party ) then DJI refresh is a bit of a no brainer. Having 3rd party liability is one of them things you have to weigh up the worth for. Are you going to crash and damage someone’s expensive car or smash a window - I for one would hate to have my drone fall out of the sky and smash the window of a Merc AMG 1 and for it to burst into flames and have to be out of pocket for that ( HAHA - its a hypothetical but it could happen I guess )

Best of both would be - have 3rd party via the awesome Grey Arrows and then DJI refresh for your drone.

Thanks for the response …..I guess that the care package is something i just need to bite the bullet on that as a security that covers those crashes that come out of the blue and only DJI can offer a solution to, especially in the early days of a drones life. I have 3rd Party insurance through FPV so the DJI would cover all but the “fly aways” ,and these I think are rare, but can be insured by Cover-drone if required…. So pay up i must and relax in the knowledge that I have most angles are covered, for when the unimagined strikes!

I have both on my Mavic 4 Pro, Coverdrone just for the actual Mavic 4 Pro, not the controller, I have that included on my home insurance policy (yes I checked with Aviva)

Check on the DJI refresh as they do cover fly aways too - my Mini 3pro cover does and so does my OG Avata

I have flyaway on my DJI too, but £700 odd to replace, so I have COverdrone for replacement if it fly’s away
