Haha that handled the branches fairly well to be fair, not sure the outcome would be so good at full whack

Rather me than you you would have been gutted if you had done that. I would have laughed

@speatuk. I see dji are now selling these just incase

saw them but I’m not sure as if you smash it on the front arm it will put the stress straight through to the rear arm.

Might order some, measure them up then send em back, print them myself

We are all missing one vital bit of info from todays flight with Steve & Chris…

what colour is it ?

You best ask Chris this because he said it was green.
I’m not that sure. I think it’s actually yellow :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

JJ foodservice or where?

Right. Had fun with the motion controller joystick yesterday. I need a bit of advice on trying Manual mode if I haven’t got access to the simulator (because DJI still live in an I-Phone-only world sometimes…)

My thoughts:

  1. Get high. (Drone. Not me).
  2. Enable Manual mode in settings.
  3. Leave acro-limit in place for now in settings
  4. Do not adjust stick spring tension (as I am not a previous FPV and have only ever flown with self-centring sticks)
  5. Change to M mode and fly v slowly and gently to see how controls feel.
  6. Get over-confident and end up in nearby Oak tree…

Your thoughts?

I don’t know much about the DJI FPV in Manual but if it’s going to react like a normal FPV quad then I would 100% try and find some sort of simulator to try it first. I spent over 7 hours in a simulator learning the controls and when I first started I couldn’t even move forward without flipping and crashing. It’s not easy.

Definately easier said than done.

Your going to need to give it constant input to just keep it in a level hover.

Pushing forward slightly starts the drone pitching forward and remains in that attitude after releasing sticks.

Chances are your going to panic and give it too much input. It’s not going to get faster, it will rotate as long as your pushing the stick.

It’s very easy to get disoriented.

It took me a while just to be able to take off and hover without slamming into the ground or something.

@ianinlondon

Definitely follow @DeanoG60 advice and spend time on a simulator.

I don’t think DJI’s simulator, even if it was on Android, is the way to go. I doubt very much they would have incorporated real world physics into it. I would suggest investing in a cheap RC controller, Radiomaster and Jumper have recently released some sub £50 multiprotocol controllers in a similar format to the DJI controller.

Then next download the LiftOff quad simulator off Steam. The controller connects straight into the USB port and will be recognised by the Sim. Liftoff has been out for a few years and the real world physics are very true. There’s multiple environments and and different quads. If you can fly ACRO in the Sim without crashing too often you’ll also be able to fly in the real world. Also ask any freestyle/racing FPV guy what it’s like flying in Acro and they’ll tell you it’s much easier than flying in Angle or Normal mode. You see you are no longer fighting the self stabilisation of the quad.

I do believe that the Pause button still works in manual mode if you panic too much :+1:

Quick question (mainly after watching @ianinlondon’s latest video).

Can it fly backwards?

Not with the motion controller

Correct; I could not make it go back at all with the controller…
