DJI Insurance

I’m on the point of receiving a DJI Mini 4 Pro and they are pushing their DJI Care Insurance. I’ve had a look at other posts where people claim on house insurance for a loss. Realistically, what’s the risk here? Is it worth the £100+ insurance? Am I really going to damage / destroy it given all the smart features making it easy to fly?

Advice please??

My advice would be to search on here where people are mega impressed with Care Refresh .. and post their experiences to back that up.

Depends on how you fly it.

Personally its a no brainer, it will never affect premiums on your house insurance (it is even covered)

I didn’t take out care refresh last September when I bought my first drone, the mini 4 pro, probably because I don’t buy extended warranties as a rule.
However, I came to realise that drones are not your typical product, being subject to many external factors that you cannot foresee ( and some that you can).

So when mine fell out of the sky last month, I was very fortunate that the cause and damage was covered under warranty, receiving a replacement mini 4 pro from DJI.

Having learned first hand, and read many similar posts on here, I bought a 2 year care refresh package for my replacement drone.

Now, when flying it over water and other places I cannot retrieve it from if it fails, I can assure you that it makes my flying less stressful.

You’ve all been brilliantly helpful - thank you.

On a related topic, I can’t fault DJI so far. I bought a 4 Pro last week only to find they had launched the 5 Pro this week. Claiming a complete refund on the 4 Pro and have a 5 Pro en route - with 2 years Care Refresh. No quibble. Can’t be bad.

Another vote here for DJI Care Refresh, it simply can’t be beaten.

Hope you were able to take advantage of the member-discount

Interesting, when my Mini4 pro ended up in pond I ended up paying £180 for a new one despite being within my first year of a 2 year refresh, I could not retrieve it as it was too deep. Trying to send the data information to Dji was almost impossible so I paid the £180…Any ideas about this?

Why was it almost impossible ?

I had a accident flying the pro 4 hit a thin wire , got replacement for £60 using the caee excellent service replaced in three days

Hi @Peterd, it looks as though you’re quite new here :wave:t2:

Why not nip over to the Introductions page, and say hello properly and tell us a bit about yourself. :+1:t2:

I’ve seen posts elsewhere about insurance companies covering drones in flight but have yet to find a company that clearly states it. My house insurance covers my drone as it does any other electrical item in and away from home, except when flying.

Only reference to a drone in my policy states they don’t cover damage/injury caused by it.

Doesn’t mention it having to be in flight so I assume that includes throwing it at someone.

Most likely as there was nothing to return to them, they treated it as a ‘FlyAway’ thus the charge… I might be wrong, but that would be my guess

Its always worth checking the Airdata and talking to them, many have done it succesfully

Don’t rely on the auto stuff. I manually ran my mini 4 pro alongside a zip wire to record granddaughter. The footage was a bit jerky so I switched to tracking and kept my hands off. Half way down it decided a tree was too close so tried to go around. Unfortunately it began to rise and couldn’t see the spindly leafless branches. I was too slow on the abort button and ended up with a mangled gimbal. Care refresh kicked in and I even got a years extension because it took almost a week to receive the replacement!
One the plus side I discovered 3 years is the max cover period…..

Coverdrone is another option to consider !

I’ve claimed 3 times one on the MP where I got my first badge the plonker award as I camaflouge it also :face_with_peeking_eye:

Mini 3 pro testing against a brick wall the obstacle avoidance at different speeds :face_with_peeking_eye:

Recently mini 4 pro took a dive into the river, my fault as I had it set to bypass instead of braking  I managed to get it up and flying but I got a error occasionally but go away after it warmed up so having cover I decided to replace

All been great but I did find when I took the basic actions of tgem receiving my drone they send a new one back to me was actually quicker then the premium where they hold on my debit card the cost of a full replacement by sending out a drone before I even send mine to them, it was only days between the 2 services but still excellent as back when I had MP im nearly sure it was about 30 days the turnaround.
