DJI Mavic Mini (Fly As You Are)

Ok, so up a 3am for France, Drone packed, lovely day over there ,tide was right at Dunkirk, French Drone Number added to database for Mavic Mini…
WHO FORGOT TO PUT A MEDIA CARD IN THE FECKIN THING !!!.. ME !
WADDA PLONKER !.
(I just assumed, like all others, that it was fitted)
Flight aborted , head to “Calias Wines” to drown your sorrows.
Another day tomorrow, weather permitting !.
Can I please have a “Plonker of the Week” badge?.

@sparkman999 gave me a great tip when we met earlier in the year, he has a brand new unopened SD in his car.

I went one better and keep one in my wallet. Its saved me already.

When I ‘need’ a new card the bought one replaces the 64GB from the wallet

I was so gutted, lost heart in flying for the day, a bottle of “Jam Shed” put me to rights !!

Bon.

Confirmed as working perfectly:

It even supports the 1100mAh Japanese LiPo batteries :+1:t2:

Battery temps are also present in the flight logs and the app is reporting itself as DJI Fly 1.0.2 on the Overview page.

Nicely done AirData, that was seriously quick support/integration :clap:t2:

I spent some time this evening with the drone powered on (the table) and just going through all the calibrations (IMU, Compass, Gimbal, Controller).

Went through every single setting in the app for the camera.

Guys, it’s really sparse :scream:

Without doubt aimed at the beginner.

But that said, I want this drone to capture those sunrises when on the early morning dog walks, those quick shots above the freezing fog when at the lakes, etc.

So being able to stick the drone in one coat pocket and the controller in the other pocket, both weighing next to nothing, then being able to quickly get up in the air without needing to cart my usual crate load of accessories around? The Mini should be ideal.

Itching to try a flight now, I’m ready to go!

You just demoted your ground station ;o)

Is there manual white-balance … to better …

?

I’m thinking the Mini will probably fit comfortably inside that ground station case

I saw ZERO white balance settings :slightly_frowning_face:

ISO, EV, Shutter were all present, but we’re lacking all the sharpness and other seriously handy settings.

Still gutted it’s JPG only too, no RAW :sob:

So … no RAW and no manual white-balance … hmm … good sunrises/sunsets could be a bit difficult.

GoPro on top?

REMINDER to everyone who rushed out to buy from Argos…

Don’t forget you’ve only got 48hrs to buy/activate DJI Care Refresh, without having to jump through hoops.

I just bought mine from DJI.com for £35, just had to enter the serial number at the checkout and it was job done.

Indeed, especially in those lighting conditions… you’ve got to wonder eh? All the youtubers with early release models clearly lived in Florida

Yeah I saw that video

Currently eyeing up my Osmo Pocket and a bit of gaffer tape :grimacing:

How do they implement the 48 hr limit?

You could do that with the MP though, right? Depending on the size of the pockets :grimacing:

If you had the MP and just the controller in the fly more bag on your walks, the MP and the Mini would require the same amount of set up time, right? May be a bit more for the Mini as you have to screw the sticks into the controller.

Talking myself out of temptation

Yeah, you’re not helping me justify my purchase here either

And I still want one of these, for said pocket use:

If someone can shout if they find a supplier with stock?

Well DHL still says mine is in China! Had about 5 Argos stores around me with stock but not anymore! Anyone else got a DHL painful wait?

From previous experience, that it says it’s still in China doesn’t mean that it is …

Looking at this something like a wrist sweatband might work.
