DJI Mini 2 without controller?

Just a thought but does anyone think DJI will end up releasing a ‘drone only’ version of the Mini 2? As its compatible with the same controller as the MA2 I wonder if they will sell the drone separately so if you have the MA2 you could buy just the drone and save some money. Have DJI every done this before?

DJI originally released the Spark without the controller included. That’s because at the time the controller wasn’t available as the Spark was originally intended to be a basic selfie drone controlled by your mobile device’s WiFi. But possibly due to demand a few months later the controller was released. Even Spark only packages were being bundled with a controller by many dealers.

Unless there is significant demand, as there was for the Spark to have a controller, I doubt very much that DJI will release a Mini2 or Air2 without a controller.

Nope - won’t happen. They come paired - and there’s no way they would want to generate all the support issues as a result of people not being able to pair them.

That seems a shame and I think they’ll be missing a trick there. There must be so many MA2 owners who would consider a Mini 2 as an extra companion at the right price given all the new regs coming in soon, as well as the Mini 2 owner that love their drone but maybe would consider an MA2 upgrade for certain conditions or circumstances but would want to keep their Mini 2 for when flying closer to people etc

It’s all about the bottom line, look how long it’s taken Apple to stop bundling a charger with their products.

What’s the betting that the M3P follows suit with the same style controller as the MA2 and M2.

I can see this happening and to me it makes sense not having to design a new controller and also keeping all new products compatible. I also think that a Mini 2 paired with MA2/M2P/M3P would cover most peoples needs. Would it not make sense to have the single compatible controller sold separately and the individual drones sold separately and then retailers could bundle the drone and controller together as a ‘package deal’ for brand new pilots who need the controller while still leaving upgrade options for others?

Makes perfect sense.

Its also surprised me that DJI don’t offer refurbs (again like Apple do), although I have heard of folks who have been offered a drone only sale after a crash or too expensive to repair.

I don’t see why not as they already do it with the Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom
