DJI Mini 3 Pro Intelligent Flight PLUS Batteries - Are They Legal in UK?

Yesterday in an M3P Facebook group a newby asked a question about Flyer and Operator IDs and also mentioned they wanted to get some Plus batteries and a ‘certain’ member stated that the Plus batteries are illegal in the UK. I asked him if he could post proof that they are illegal as I don’t believe that they are and all he could come up with was ‘why are all UK retailers refusing to stock them if they aren’t illegal?’

I then tried to politely explain that it was DJI that would not provide stock to UK/EU retailers because it would take the drone in to a different weight class with different rules of flying (unless you have the A2CofC?).

The next thing I know is that the whole discussion has been removed without any feedback as to why. Am I wrong? Are the batteries illegal? I have searched the interweb and can find nothing to say they are but plenty to back up that they just take the drone in to a heavier weight class.

From what I understand they are NOT illegal in their own right but yes it would put the drone over weight so you would not be flying in the sub 250g category. I believe the same is true for the wide angle lens that you also can’t get via the DJI UK site but you can via Amazon.

The batteries are not illegal but they do take you over 250g so you are suppose to abide by the rules for drones over 250 g.
I have 2 which I ordered via Aliexpress but I think others are buying from ebay
They work fine, the firmware for the batteries updates and I like the extra fly time

You can buy the long flight time battery from Amazon

I have two which I got from Aliexpress last year, I use them when flying over the sea or rivers.

about £50 more expensive than Ali :frowning:

Yes the price has come down on Ali now; I paid just short of £200 last year for two of them.

No suppose about it.

Which, of course, includes having a Flyer ID if you haven’t already got one.

Quite legal.

I fly often with them - subject to the rules for 270g drones (or whatever it ways)

I believe they add 40.5g.

I was was quite sure I was in the right that they are legal, just subject to different rules according to the heavier weight, but when the whole topic was removed from the Facebook group without explanation I was beginning to doubt myself.

I have seen the member in the past make claims about things that are incorrect and totally refuse to believe he is wrong when it has been explained.

Article 16 gives most of the freedoms back

Or A2 CofC

In a field

I bought mine from DJI UK, and still keeps in the sub 250g category when fitted :+1:t3:

Ooh. A few weeks back I could not find it so got mine off Amazon in the end.

I did see a YouTube vid that showed the lens out the drone over the 250g limit but only just. But then I have also seen that not all mini 3 pro’s weigh the same. Only a few grams in it though.

Hi all,
I got my Plus batteries when I purchased my Mini 3 Pro Fly More Plus Kit in Australia, I also bought an extra couple of the Plus Batteries and the wide angle lens.

I actually didn’t know they weren’t available in the UK
I might have to grab a couple here in Hong Kong before I leave, they are about 75 quid each

Fill your cases with them and sell when you get here?

:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Hahaha good plan, 30kg of batteries.
I’m not sure my case has been that full since my wife went to an Ann Summers party in Spain
