After a fair few flights now, I conclude the signal range on these things is terrible.
How is everyone else finding it?
(Yes FCC hack etc, but it really shouldn’t come to that)
Worth checking out GavinHR video on YT - he has a theory about which frequency its operating on - have a look and see if it helps 
Tried it. It makes no difference. It’s picking the right channels.
I noticed after latest firmware it’s now saying Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are turned off automatically and if you want them (to get maps I guess) turn them on manually.
Tried today with the hotspot on and the hotspot off in case the interference is actually from my pocket but it made no difference to distance I got.
Didn’t try turning off phone totally to see if that made a difference but I doubt it.
Which controller, or doesn’t it matter?
It doesn’t matter. At least it’s consistent. I’m having to re-evaluate TOAL locations going forward and hope the damn thing can make 500meters which is barely over a quarter of a mile. Might pull my Mini 2 from sale at this rate.

No, I got the Mini 3 from Curry’s then ordered the Fly More last week from DJI.

Is it a possibility the DJI have stealthily limited the range to fit in with the line of sight recommendations of 500mtrs in the UK (not sure on rest of EU)? Haven’t tried mine yet over any distance so can’t say how it will perform yet.

Yeah I think you might be on to something there. I’m still yet to get out for a flight with mine I have the RC-N1 controller

Without getting to bogged down by a VLOS discussion. If that was the case why would they advertise these specs. Which I respect are unrealistic in the real world
the mini 2 has less antennas and doesn’t have this problem and it’s all over the internet elsewhere regardless of location. Some people have no issue others are even less fortunate than me. I suspecting a manufacturing fault but I guess we’ll wait and see. Be a lot of units to replace in warranty if it can’t be fixed by software.

The max flight distance that the drone can cover not how far away it will go. So it will can cover 18km going round in a 500m diameter circle going round and round or fly 500m out and back 18 times.
Exactly this is where they like to make the specs confusing
Thanks. Should really not have picked my phone back up as I got into bed. Either way the mini 2 out performs range wise for me so far. It’s quite disappointing.
