While filming at a timber merchants with the DJI Neo I was able to fly through an impossibly small gap. I am so impressed with this little drone. The video quality is not quite as good as the Mini 4 Pro that I also have, but I would not have been brave enough to fly the Mini 4 Pro around inside, even with some prop guards on that I purchased.
I was also impressed with the stability inside, with no satellites.
It was recorded using auto settings, pulled into Adobe Premiere and I applied basic auto-correct, which brightened it up a little.
An additional thing I’ve noticed is because of the gimbal limitation of the Neo - it only stabilises up/down. This makes any turns look very ‘wooden’ in comparison to my Mini 4 Pro.
So, note to self: Use Neo for filming in tight spaces and the Mini 4 Pro when I want good footage with rotations.
I’ve yet to experience the joy of FPV, and am generally looking for more ‘traditional’ style of video shots. Problem is also that I wouldn’t have a spotter available, so wouldn’t want to fly it on my own.
However, I suspect the pull will be too strong, and DJI will take more of my cash at some point for the goggles…
Interesting to read / see this. I just found an FPV setting for my Mini 3 which I suspect is nothing like FPV but I will play with it. What is the single stand out advantage to FPV - is this the way forward with everything else being old news now?
I was pleasantly shocked by how stable it was indoors! I added some cheap bumpers off eBay and during the flight I did bump into a couple of things - the Neo just bounced off and kept flying. I suspect that if I left it hovering it would drift, but it was perfectly controllable in flight. After flying through that gap I had a big smile on my face! It really opens up the possibilities of what you can do and where you can fly.
(I saw a video on YouTube of someone balancing four Oreo biscuits on top of the Neo, and it could still maintain height. That shows the level of stability that this little thing has).
you can also pair the mini 3 (and 4) pro to various goggles and a motion controller and fly fpv (which I do on occasion as it’s quieter than the avata) if I’m looking for fpv footage but without the true manual control fpv.
allows to shoot gaps and railings etc or follow the terrain closely
I did another flight whilst on the same holiday, an abandoned hotel in Lanzarote. There were a few hairy moments but overall I’m happy with the outcome.
I would consider one of these but you need a phone, and I couldn’t download DJI software on my android phone. I read many have had the same thing. Is there a work around?
