good morning , i have asked about which drone to purchase and lots say dji , which after reading on google sounds good , i have been offered a phantom 3 on loan ( after getting my licence ) with a view to buying if i am happy, are they good or is the mini 2 better your thoughts please !!
Mini 2…
When you say ‘license’, what are you referring to?
The weight of the Phantom 3 will be against you in terms of where you can fly, or fly from. If you live in an urban / town / village area, it would likely be illegal to fly it from your back garden, for instance, if you can’t get the necessary separation from other buildings / homes.
The sub-250g category (DJI Mini or Mini 2) is a drone fliers best friend - you can basically fly it anywhere.

The Phantom 3 is over 5 years old now, parts are getting scarce, batteries are at least 5 years old if you buy genuine ones. You’ll need a backpack or something to keep it in and carry it about, they’re not as small as they look!
The Mini 2 you can stick in a pocket (big pocket), you can use Mini 1 batteries if you can’t find any M2 ones cheap enough. The batteries last for up to half an hour against the P3s 20 minutes (if you’re lucky). The camera is as good if not better on the M2 as it’s at least 3 generations newer.
Borrow the P3 for a couple of days, then give it him back and buy a Mini 2 and enjoy your flying.
For all the reasons above I would not buy a Phantom 3 (although I have been looking for a cheap P3A since selling mine on 4 years ago).
Its a great drone fly’s very well, easily visible BUT you would grow out of it very quickly.
Find someone local and go have a look/play with a MIni 2.
hi chris , just got my flyer id and i am going to buy , dji mini combo direct from dji website , will i need operator id as well , and do i have to put flyer id on the drone , thanks rob
Good choice
Best to do both for when you get smitten and want a MA2S
You MUST have an operator ID to fly a drone and this needs to be on the drone. For sub 250g drone you don’t need a flyer ID but there’s no harm in getting it.
