DJI RC Controller sticky control sticks

Hi,

Today, going out with my DJI mini 3 and associated DJI RC controller, I noticed that the left hand control stick was sticky (that is not centring) in either direction and the right hand one was OK left & right but sticky up & down.

I have not dropped the RC and it was fine when I last used (about a month ago).

I could not find anyone else reporting this issue. My questions are:

Is there an easy fix?

If not, which is the best route to fix (as less than 2 years old): complain to the retailer (Costco) or use the DJI Care Refresh?

Thanks,

Peter

Does the DJI RC have tension adjustment screws on the bottom that you can adjust with an Allen key?

Have you checked in & around where you screw the joystick in to see if dirty or dusty etc ? Maybe worth a look could be bit of crap in there making it stick just a guess, I did read somewhere ages ago ( not sure how true the theory is tho ) that leaving the joysticks screwed in whilst stored for extended periods of time has sometimes caused this kind of issue ’ especially if the controller was packed away with joystick skew whiff & not centred ‘ if that makes sense,
I know also & I’m assuming on these ( similar adjustment as rc pro ) there is a screw in the back behind the rubber grip that adjusts the tension, but unless you know if it’s that or how to adjust it I strongly don’t recommend messing around with the tension screws unless you feel confident ?
When you wind the screw in ( clockwise ) it makes the joystick stiffer & then does not re centre on its own, if you wind it out ( anti clockwise ) it makes it more springy & usually will centralise itself, I know this as I played with mine once but the rc pro,
I believe the screw is behind the rubber on the back which can be a faff removing,

Thanks for the question, but sadly, no, it does not. As the name is very generic (DJI RC Controller), the part number is RM330 in tiny writing.

Let me check YouTube for you, I’m sure I’ve seen one of these having the process done as I stated above, I’ll be right back :+1:

No send it back to DJI for repair

That’s the best bet if you don’t feel confident removing the rubber & or investigating in the back,
Couldn’t find a video on this particular RC but there are other tutorials on the removing of the rubber to access the resistance screws in the back.

Thanks for the responses and as I have cover and not super confident at repairs, probably best bet to contact DJI.

Just to complete the story.

I sent the controller back on Monday, after negotiating the slightly confusing web site choices for repair.

On Tuesday, I was notified that it was received and that the repair was to replace the left & right controllers. I was also notified that would be returned that day. This included a slightly weird, possibly automated phone call from the Netherlands about the repair.

Today (Wednesday) I received the controller, or to be more accurate, replacement controller. This did mean I had lost all the previous flight details. I do recall being warned of this, but for some reason thought was stored in the drone itself. Not a huge loss. The other irritation was having to reset up the controller and bind it to my Mini 3.

But overall a pretty positive experience and thanks again for the advice given.

Had it not been connected to the internet before sending back? If it was, they will have been synced to your account.

DJI’s European HQ is in the Netherlands.

Glad to hear you got it sorted :+1:
Superb quick turnaround ….

I think it had been, as updated the firmware not that long ago. Must have not enabled synchronisation. I will rectify with the new controller. Live and learn.

Four days from asking the question on here to getting a replacement controller in your hands.

Not a bad turn around

Indeed, impressed with both DJI and Grey Arrows,

Thanks again,

Peter
