DJI RC - worth while?

Hi - I (finally) have to admit my eyesight isn’t what it was. Im currently using the stock dji mini2 controller, and have tried it with a couple of smart phones and an ipad mini 4.
And in sunny weather I can’t see a #### thing.
My rather posh Oneplus phone has a 600 nits spec for screen brightness, but I’m loathe to use that as it’s in constant use for communication.
I read that there’s an RC for the dji drones, with a 700 nits brightness spec - but it’s £255.
Does anybody have strong views on whether it’s worth having? Or another solution to bright days/poor vision?
Thanks in advance…

I would say yes!

However, it is not compatible with the Mini 2.

The DJI RC is compatible with:

DJI Mini 3 Pro,
DJI Mini 3,
DJI Mavic 3,
DJI Mavic 3 Classic,
DJI Mavic 3 Cine,
DJI Air 2S

The older model Smart Controller is compatible with the Mini 2, 1000 nit brightness, better range than the RC, but it’s nearly twice as much (ebay prices range from £350 upwards). Also compatible with Mavic 2 Pro/Zoom, Air 2, Air 2S and Phantom 4 Pro v2.0.

I was using my iPhone which has up to a 700 nits display but on a sunny day this drops fairly fast and so I ‘invested’ in a DJI RC Pro that is rated at 1,000 nits and because it is fan assisted it remains at 1,000 - for me it made all the difference - I can now easily read the menus and view the display

I’ve seen shade/visor over screen to improve visibility

I tried that and it works for a while but as the phone heats the nits quickly drop meaning that for me I could not easily read the screen

I have the same problem with my eyesight. The shade/ visor with my I Pad connected to my Mavic Classic enable me to fly again!

I prefer the RC to the old N-1 controller for it’s convenience. It maybe a little brighter than my Samsung phone was but it’s not that much brighter and as my phone is a the S10e the screen on the RC is bigger.

I invested in a rubberised screen shade for the RC; It did improve things but is not the holy-Grail and I sometimes catch the sticks on it going up or forward.

Maybe try before you buy, there might be someone close to you that has one to demonstrate it’s capabilities?

Try one of these… but mega expensive.

I use sunshades for both my iPhone and iPad got them from Amazon. Game changer.

Link?

I have used this one in the past.

Thanks for the Trip tek uTube - it has a really good spec and from what I could find a similar price to the DJI RC Pro, though a downside is that it needs to be connected to a controller, though as the reviewer noted it can be used as a stand alone tablet which the RC cannot
Personally I like the confidence that the DJI RC Pro gives me to be able to easily view and read menus on the screen whilst flying even on hot days

Shades are obviously sensible whichever screen you choose as they can help with glare

Thanks to all for the advice. The tablet looks great, but too much dosh, I fear. I’m checking out shades for both a smartphone and an ipad mini4 - will report back.
Special thanks to DroneGeek for pointing out that the dji RC isn’t compatible with the mini2 - saved me from an expensive mistake!

I’m having connection problems with my DJI RC and Mavic 3 Classic, it’s rubbish.
I’m barely getting 1000ft before the thing shows a weak signal or loses completely. In waypoint missions I set it to complete mission on signal loss.
I might have to buy the RC-N1 or buy the FCC hack.
Has anyone else suffered this with the combination above?

Stillight, Whilst waiting for the drone police to come along, 1000ft and you experience signal loss ?

And vertigo I expect

Nowadays I lose sight of my mini 3 Pro at about 350m in good light and contrast ,albeit I would struggle with orientation at that distance; which coincidentally is also the distance my RC drops its signal as well. Very frustrating and can’t wait to get it reliably hacked!

Yep
Do you think I’m expecting too much from it?

?

Which one are you going to use?
