Hi I’m just wondering if anyone can help me i have a dji spark drone and when in the app I try to press the hover button to get it up and flying but it spins up the props and nothing else happens they just shut off and on the screen it brings up check imu and motor, can anybody help me? Thank you in advance.

Thank you for your time to reply and thanks for accepting the past in the first place, I have completed the imu and compass calibrations but now when I try set the home point or see where it is on find my drone it says China?? Even though I am in Leeds, United Kingdom. Any ideas? It doesn’t bring up errors whilst the drone is calibrating it completes the calibrations fine just when I press the hover on the app nothing and if I try control it with the sticks on the remote no joy either, thanks again in advance👍🏻

The post*

Have you updated the app with the drone connected to your computer or iPad with the go4 app via WiFi or even cable.
It takes about 20 mins

No how would I go about doing this? Thank you for the advice.

Go to www.djidownloads.com. Log in with your username and password Make sure the drone has more than 50% battery. Turn on the drone, and have it connect via WiFi or cable to the laptop or tablet and a menu should appear, or it’ll ask you if you wish to update the settings, choose your spark. Then just follow the instructions on screen. It’ll take you through loads of set up,calibrations, including where in the world you are. Your drone still thinks it’s in China and can’t figure out why the satellite signals are all wrong for where it actually is.
There will be a you tube video describing how to do it, which is easier than me explaining probably

Did you just make that domain name up?

Hi Dylan.

Can you supply some history about your Spark? E.g. Did you buy it new? Have you managed to fly it before having these issues? Has it ever had a hard unscheduled landing (crash)?

It sounds like you’ve successfully calibrated the IMU but still not able to take off. The Spark has a beginner mode, selectable from the settings menu. When this is activated it will not take off until at least 12 or more Satellites have been locked onto. The same is true for accurately logging a home point.

The Spark can take a while to acquire a suitable number of satellites, especially if it hasn’t been used in a long time as it will need to update its internal satellite almanac. You will need to place it in an area where it can see as much unobstructed sky as possible.

We’re not a million miles apart, and I also have a Spark in my collection, so if push came to shove we could meet to sort things out if you don’t have any success.

@Nidge thank you for the reply mate I bought from a friend who had a crash with the spark (breaking two of the mid frame legs) so I decided to take on myself as a little project because it’s the sort of diy stuff I like to do in my day to day life anyway bearing in mind this is the first drone I have worked on, I have had it repaired for about a week now and then I had the error as I mentioned previously but it turns out it was just a rookie mistake I had made as I removed two rear motors today and the outer 2 motor wires were backwards on the connections therefore causing downwards force instead of upwards. I managed to get about an hours flights in this morning after switching the wires, thank you very much again for the interest and taking your time to reply to me. I also appreciate you offering to give up your time to come to me to sort it out for me too. Thanks, Dylan.

That’s fantastic news, Dylan. The error is an easy mistake to make as I’ve done it myself on more occasions than I’m prepared to admit to. The reason I asked if it had been crashed had method behind the madness. A common casualty when a Spark crashes is damage to the GPS board. The ceramic antenna for the GPS is right underneath the top cover and this often cracks in a Spark crash.

I look forward to seeing the fruits of your labour on this site as the Spark has an exceptional camera, even if it is limited to 1080p@30fps and only mechanically stabilised on two of its three axis…

Let the fun begin.
