Hi,
I purchased a DJI Mavic 2 Zoom a couple of weeks ago direct from DJI and I’m debating returning it and buying one off ebay instead as you can get them for several hundred cheaper. Just wondering if anyone had any advice on this and whether there are any specific risks buying second hand. I realise there could be risk of damage etc but how many of you buy second hand and have you had a good experience?

Every used drone/SUAS I’ve bought off eBay I have done so with the expectancy that I may need to repair some part/component, irrespective of the sellers description. If I want peace of mind that everything works, and some form of recourse if it doesn’t, I would buy new from a reputable source. Buying used off eBay is always a gamble, it’s a matter of how much of a stake you’re willing to put down and if you can accept a loss when you lose.

Buying second hand is always risky with a drone! Last year I bought a Hubsan H501S off ebay and it flew great and I could see where I was going but could not record anything. I contacted the seller and he said that it worked perfectly for him so I was stumped! I bought a new camera which was the wrong one so I then bought the correct one and fitted it and I could record straight away. When I put it back together there were so many wires I couldn’t join the two parts of the drone completely together so I flew it for a while and then decided to tighten it up, BIG MISTAKE, I tore a connector off the main board and damaged wiring to one of the motors. I bought a new main PCB but is looks different.
Having spent quite a bit of cash and waited for months for bits and pieces including two new batteries, I have now given up and it’s all in a drawer!!!
OK. I think i’ll reconsider my idea of returning my new one from DJI in favour of a cheaper option then! thanks
I repair them myself. I usually go for ones that are listed as spares or repair or that no one else has shown interest in.

HI … I had done the same looked at the DJI site … then went and bought A Mavic 2 Pro with the pack for about half price … it looks mint and works well
Can get a good deal second hand but it’d be best if it’s from someone who will allow you to test it first.
that’s dead right… I had the guy do an hours flying before I transfered the cash… and checked everything… He was great about it
its the same with everything, its always a risk if you buy second hand. but, the savings can make it worth it. you just have to weigh up if the potential gamble is worth it. yes try and get a test drive first, not always possible geographically, but the higher the price, the further i would travel to make sure.
I bought my refurbed Mavic 2 Pro in January 2019 from an ebay seller’s store and it was almost £300 cheaper than new (the store is an authorised DJI repairer. I’ve never had an issue with it and was so impressed I went and bought refurbed batteries from the same store and these were also cheaper than new and are still good today.

I’ve bought from this seller and can vouch for there authenticity.
It wasn’t a big spend, just a Tello Edu but it arrived the next day even though we were in the height of lockdown, and was in as new condition with all the original accessories still sealed in their respective bags. The price was less than half what some sellers were asking for a well used Tello Edu.

Like buying a second hand car, could be a bargain or maybe being sold because of known problems. With new, should be ok with warranty. Depends on you willing to take a gamble !
