Reminds me so much of our own …..
18 years after we lost him I still miss him every day
He was my best friend and larger than life.

Thanks. Just hoping that, one day, her behaviour matches her good looks. She’s pretty good out and about, but a devious recalcitrant around the house.

Looks like butter wouldn’t melt…….. :grinning_cat_with_smiling_eyes:.

Our new dog is greedy (unusual for a shepherd) , so have to watch when feeding cats & pick up as soon as they’ve finished. Luckily he doesn’t nick off table or kitchen work tops even though they’re below head height (he’s a tall dog).

He also has a habit of chasing other dogs on the beach and won’t come back for love or money, if there are no other dogs to play with his recall is good.

It wouldn’t - it would be in her tummy before it rose 0.0001.℃.

Sophie is not really food motivated .. unless it’s my food, of course.

Sophie has been able to reach up to tables, worktops, cooker since she was quite young (even a hot frying pan clattered down when she was only 3 months! :scream:).
She could open the fridge and freezer .. until I put locks on them.
She now understands that me going to the loo means she has a minute or two of freedom in the kitchen (stupid, she ain’t!) .. so now I have to clear anything under 5ft that might take her interest before going. ALL surfaces above 5ft are absolutely chocker with stuff!
Even the loo brush and loo roll now hang from the ceiling .. since she realised she could stand on the loo seat to reach them on the shelf I put up specifically so that she couldn’t reach them. :man_facepalming:

She’s only 10 months .. but she’s OK. She doesn’t rush off, and approaches other dogs/people in stages .. sitting/lying briefly as she goes. Rather handy for putting other people, and dog owners, that don’t know her at ease that she’s not coming in full-steam.
Recall getting better .. it only needs to be more instant, rather than after a sniffing session .. unless the other dog is a similarly totally energetic running-around-like-a-looney dog .. when there’s no stopping her.

Best of all, one day last week, was when a woman and 5 young kids (one 9-ish, the others probably 7 to 3) came to say hello.
Sophie was off lead and running for her balls .. the kids threw her balls, cuddled here, stroked her, ran about with her .. and Sophie was effing perfectly behaved!
Jumping up at people is her biggest fault but, pretty much, only with taller people (getting eye-to-eye, I think), but with the little children she never did.
Best walk ever, that was. So impressed errr surprised errr effing smug with her. :winking_face_with_tongue: (Probably all three.)

Have you tried a water pistol (or similar), set up a situation where it would be irresistible for , say a morsel of food on table and when she goes to get it an instant quick squirt, to distract her with the command NO spoken in a firm low pitched voice. Repeated over different situations?

The biggest problem with that is that it seems I nearly ALWAYS have things in my hand trying to cook a meal .. and no spare hands to do anything. I’m left with a loud shout of “No!” and a shove with my foot.

Also - as I say .. she’s “clever” .. if I sit there watching her she won’t touch anything .. or just a look, or my movement, dissuades her.

Need to get him a bone.

Wifey bought pig ears but I stopped her giving him one as it says 1 year plus and he’s nearly 9 months now

Dave arrived today, had wee test and fuff it goes far, when you load it up, it’s fun watching them fly all over the place.

Just need to train him to retrieve and plonk ball back in

My first two dogs (the brown boys) with my wife’s black Lab. They were born in the Middle East where I was living at the time but adjusted to the cold UK quite quickly. Brothers from two different litters. All three gone now…

Now we just have Rum…

Thought I’d share a picture of my gorgeous girl, Mayar. She’s 14 now, so starting to slow down a bit.
