Wish stuff like this were talked about more than just the fear mongering and idiot accidents.
Three years ago I had a heart attack whike driving, basically died at the wheel and went across the road and was hit by an oncoming car. This blocked the main road on the island, the only other route being a narrow lane than soon became congested.
The ambulance had a haed and long job getting to me, the air ambulance was sent as well and was able to land in a nearby field.
A drone defib would have been really useful, the nearest publically accessible one was two miles down (the now blocked) road.
I was exceptionally lucky; a community nurse was a few cars behind me and she performed CPR fot 20 minutes until the helicopter arrived - Thanks Gemma!
A Dutch guy designed a flying defibrillator 10 or so years ago. Dont know if anything came of it.

Being pushing my work for a defib
Had 2 fitted last week, amazing bit of kit
Before I Retired. I used to travel all over the country installing defib’s in Companies and training the staff how to use them. I personally installed hundreds of them and trained thousands of people how to use them. Did it for over ten years.
Positive news at last.
Mind you, some of us have our own implanted defib ![]()
I have an ICD or IED as I tend to calll it. I explainn to people that if I keel over they can watch me thrash around a bit as the ICD does its thing then I’ll get up again.
Good piece of kit to have except now i can never drive a vehicle over 3500kg GVW Again (my camper van is 3850kg
) or tow any size of trailer. I am also advised not to weld at over 160amps or operate a petrol chainsaw close to my body (magneto ignition?).
It’s not all fun and games! ![]()
Wow. Amazing story Robert. Thanks for sharing. And well done Gemma.
