I will be in Pooley Bridge this weekend to fly my drone, i have looked into previous questions on the topic, but have not decided if I am able to fly or not. Firstly using drone Scene, most of the shore line is a SSSI area, but delegated for what particular issue, birds are unlikely to be nesting, flying shouldn’t affect rocks or plants, do I need insurance, I am covered by GADC insurance for pleasure flying, looked also at the other bodies mentioned in my query. but I am almost at a loss to decipher if I am allowed to fly or not. I have also just watched another flyer in the same ares earlier this year, so I’m thinking why not, I just do not wish to fall foul of the rules, trying to be a responsible flyer.
Any advice would be appreciated, all the local offices are closed from this afternoon until Monday, to seek advice from, but synically thinking, they would just say NO.
i found a youtube video about this topic from a channel called Geeksvana. I have watched it but still blurry to me, but here is the link, hope it helps
i think this page might explain the sssi near pooley bridge, if this is the same one
Site Search?
SiteCode=S1002427&SiteName=&countyCode=9&responsiblePerson=&SeaArea=&IFCAArea=
this is the citation for that area https://designatedsites.naturalengland.org.uk/PDFsForWeb/Citation/1002427.pdf
by going by the video i linked to, and what i have read in citation i do not think there are birds, and if so i would not expect them to be nesting at this time of year. I personally would consider doing it, but i am not a legal expert or anything, so that is just my opinon. Maybe phone natural england and ask them? , hope i have helped
@GeeOjay The only passage in the relative SSSi is this: # Use of vehicles or craft, except for the existing use of boats for freshwater fishing and angling.
I dont think it would apply to Drones. There is no FOI info that I can find… so far and no FRZ. So I would fly there no problem. Just keep away from crowds. Moreover, the plethora of YT videos of the place, including flying under the multi meggabucks all singing and dancing bridge, would suggest others agree with me!
hi, i can understand sssi for nest birds and animals, but i have a sssi near me and it says you have to keep your dog on the lead, due to plants, but the council have went and cut the grass down, I think bamburgh castle has an sssi and they say you cant fly a drone, as i said before, i understand nesting birds and animals, but as for rocks etc, nah its not like you are going to stand on the rocks. but i agree with you
Any drones flights in the Lake District I always ring RAF Leeming . As they do flights training thro Lakeland … you don’t want fly when one these coming in … you will have NO time to move safety… .as sometimes they fly below 120m in the valleys
But of the flights are Monday to Fridays normally…
I don’t think their routes cover low flight over Pooley Bridge. They stick to the valley routes as far as I am aware but no harm in ringing them as they are very accommodating. Check out this URL:
Thanks for info
