Drone Holidays

So, currently working here in Guernsey, have managed to get the Mavic 2 Pro up once here since Christmas, whether been pretty poor since and today and tomorrow we have F5 wind. Which took me to thinking about holidays. Drone Holidays. Yesterday I recieved details of the full program of drone holidays being undertaken by Phantom Flight School (Holidays Archives - Phantom Flight School) Now I am already booked for the Pyrenees Trip in May which sounds amazing. However they have a new trip to Meteora in Greece which looks like absolute DRONE FLYING NECTAR.

So, thinking of getting myself on that one too. Anyone else do these sorts of things?

I didn’t know such a thing existed! I’ll provably get myself to Iceland this year but not as a package. I’m sure you’ll have a great time! I’d love to hear about it!

Wow. This has to be a new new thing. Imagine that…a holiday with my drone.

Thats going to go down pretty well when I tell the wife I’ve booked 2 tickets abroad and the other one is for my M2P!:rofl::+1:

I did my PfCO with Phantom Flight School in Periana, Spain last September and it was the most brilliant week. Superb flying locations and the best tuition I could have asked for. Still processing video from the week now. I am slow at doing that though.

How did you find doing your flight ops manual, i have heard it is a nightmare to do.

Hi there

Never really heard of that but it sounds brilliant! All my holidays are photography related so why not add the drone for extra enjoyment!
I’ll definitely have a look at that site, cheers

They have a very very easy method that produces your ops manual for submission to CAA. It’s a CAA approved template that you slot in your own details. Obviously you need to know the detail of your own manual but I did mine in probably less than three days AND since then I have added a second drone and this was a simple case of adding an appendix to my manual. I have heard some horror stories on here about ops manuals but Alan and his associates have this down to a real fine art. Well worth contacting them. Say I sent you. They are a great bunch of people.

Great info, Thanks Geoff.

How did they get permission to fly at Meteora ?

That area for flying is not just restricted, it is absolutely prohibited :scream:

God commanded it for the protection of the Monks’ privacy.

You are indeed correct. However Phantom Flight School research all their destinations prior to offering them and also have the services of brilliant photographer George Blonsky who has been taking photographers to Meteora for years, everything is possible.

I hope this explains it satisfactorily for you.

I’m doing a holiday to the Lake District with Alan in April/May

Alan and Simon are both great people! What sort of equipment do you need to bring?

Whatever you want. I had a Phantom 4 Pro and a Mavic Pro with me. Four batteries for each. Generally fly twice in the morning and twice in the afternoon without a chance to charge in between. However I drove to both Spain and the Pyrenees so no problem with stuff on planes. One guy who also went on both took an Inspire 1 on the plane though. Drone in the hold and discharged batteries in hand luggage.
Dont forget plug adapters for the chargers. Knackered without them unless you’re into sticking bare wires into sockets with match sticks :grinning: I didn’t use DJI chargers. Got one from Ebay that charges all four batteries and the controller at the same time time which helps. You can also get adapter cables so that the Phantom charger can also be used to charge Mavic 2 batteries if you have both drones.

I’m going with Alan to the Lake District I have two batteries do you think that is sufficient?

Depends how much you want to fly. Every day we got to fly twice in the morning and twice in the afternoon so really needed four batteries as like I said rarely got a chance to charge them at midday. Try asking Alan if he will hire lend/hire you some if you don’t want to buy any more.

Ok yes I’ve sent him a text
