Drone incidents in prisons up 1,000% in five years

Know what, I’ve given up worrying about this; the home office and HMP have consistenly done nothing to prevent this activity, not even put nets up in most places. Nets would be an effective and cost-efficient solution, but would need maintainance and replacing after storm damage and HMP clearly can’t be arsed! And readily available drugs keep the prisoners quiet and controllable, narcotics for psychotics…

Just proves, criminals don’t care about legislations, so all the money spent implementing new perimeter limits around prisons did nothing.
Just like digital ID will won’t stop criminal activity.

We are, we always do. Depends, I suppose, on whether members of society are willing to fund something that very significantly reduces drug-related crime within society when these prisiners are released. I live in an inner-city area with a high rate of crime, and I assure you that, at street level, it is almost all drug-related. If that could be addressed, as it should be, my life would be considerably more pleasant and safer!

Most prison do have them

We must also remember people who say “it’s only a bit of weed” I have worked in this environment and have seen the aftermath of this, there are many Victims in prison or people who require medical institutions to help them and not prisons to punish them for trying to kill themselves! Good old cut backs over many years

Since when was the Home Office responsible for prisons and its funding? You’ll find it’s the Ministry of Justice.

Why do they need to waste a fortune on a counter drone tech challenge???

They only have to look across the water to Les Nicolles Prison anti-drone tech on Guernsey since 2017.

Some more details on the drone fence system and a video in this article.

From what I read its quite affective and its been suggested quite a few times for both prisons and airports. So why has it not been considered over here when its been proven to have a good success rate in Guernsey. The cynical side of me says that some gov official wants to make sure his mates palms are crossed with gold

Thats very probable.

This year the Scottish Prison Service has started fitting grills across the windows of prisoners cells, in an attempt to stop this.
