Just stumbled across this regarding drone smuggling contraband into prisons, although the arrest was made last year I believe the pair was only sentenced about a week ago,
There’s a video in the description of the drones incursion at one of the prisons that Northants police have posted,
I dare bet they had no license to fly as well lol’s, they got what they deserved.
Absolute muppets who recorded all their own incriminating evidence at the same time…
Yes definitely not the brightest
Well - they may have been jailed, but the chances are that they probably have the best contacts to have stuff smuggled in to them by drone …
The article says the sentencing will be a warning to others. No it won’t, with good behaviour bothe will be out in under 2 years, and while inside the drug gangs will make sure they are looked after.
Good.
But not long enough.
Only one way to solve the prison problem is with anti drone technology
They’ll work round that.
Keep them locked up properly , pay the staff a decent wage will go a long way
The sentence was 73 months, which takes it over the 5-year threshold. Under 5 years, the tariff MIGHT be reduced by half on good behaviour and agreement of the probation services (not guaranteed). The rest of the tariff is spent on probation and could involve ankle tags, random and frequent home visits, home searches and having to report to given locations within a set timeframe.
Over 5 years and all bets are off. There need not be any parole at all.
He will not be out “in under 2 years”.
I have a neigbour who, while being law-abiding himself, knows a few career criminals and has the ‘inside track’ on matters perp. He tells me that it is not possible to fly stuff into Cardiff Prison because the drone will drop out of the sky just before arriving over the wall; there is clearly some sort of signal jamming being used. He says the crims call it the ‘iron dome’. I would have thought that if this is true of Cardiff, it is true of other prisons as well!
Sadly, the drug gangs seem to be able to sell product easily in prisons and don’t have to rely on drones to be able to do so. I know of several people who were not drug users who have been convicted of minor offences, served short jail terms, and come out addicted to crack or heroin. Jail is a very effective destroyer of lives.
Why do they always lead these things with “Drone Pilot”? I know he was piloting a drone, but this is what leads people to think that all drone pilots are up to no good. Why couldn’t they have led with “Drug Dealer Uses Drone” or “Criminal Uses Drone”
Are they doing it on purpose to tarnish all drone pilots?
Drop out of the sky?
Sounds like an interesting technology, how does it work?
That could be very dangerous to anyone standing below.
They must have only installed it recently as until October 2023 it was perfectly legal to fly a drone over a prison.

Yet the majority of inmates have destroyed many more.
Many years ago the majority ( of inmates ) if that was your thing smoked hash / solid as it was back then,
Whilst that’s quite right
Had the prisons not bought in piss tests to test inmates for cannabis which is what happened as apparently cannabis stays in the system for quite some time which meant those who tested & was positive got extra time on there sentence etc, which sadly in turn a lot of the inmates then turned to heroin aka brown as it’s also called dirty nasty drug then the prisons was full of brown heads ( chasing the dragon ) then that’s when things started to get worse & people came out there addicted to that & so on, apparently heroin is in out your system quick, never gone near it never would filthy / nasty & seen to many ( once good people ) now in the gutter ……
I highly doubt it will just drop out the sky considering public footpaths and busy roads are immediately by the prison perimeter.
Ahh, it mentions a “total” of 73 months in the article. Sadly these days most sentences for multiple convictions run concurrently. I’ve not heard of anyone these days, having to spend several sentences consecutively.
You have too high opinion of the 'drug gangs" they are useless assets and will be treated as such now they have no value
I have a very low opinion of drug gangs, and only consider sex offenders and people traffickers to be lower forms of pond life. I would estimate that the biggest root cause of problems and criminality affecting ordinary people suffering the consequences of crime in the form of burglary, muggings, street begging, or prostitution is the desire of addicts to obtain the werewithal to obtain their chemical refreshment of choice. As for ‘now they have no value’, I’d say these wastes of skins never had any value.
