I make a small number of hiking videos and currently fly a Mini SE and Neo.
I’m looking for another drone for my B roll footage. This doesn’t need to be as compact but I’m after better wind resistance. I have a limited budget. The 2 drones that I think may meet my needs are either a Mavic Air 2 or an A2S.
I’m not bothered about the upwards obstacle sensors but the master shots sounds interesting but maybe a bit of a gimmick.
Is one better than the other?
Oh I have an A2 C of C.
Definitely the Air 2s as for budget be the best companion for your mini.
I own a air 2s and have no problem with winds especially when I have the Mini 4 pro up and getting wind errors galore so goto the air 2 s and fantastic, best imo was my DJI FPV it flew like a monster in all kinds of winds.( Air 2 does use a DJI smart controller but I’ve never used it)
Mpb DJI 2s combi excellent condition £550
Also 2s over the air 2 you can use a DJI RC so no phone or tablet needed (
Goto this @ianinlondon YouTube channel as anything you’ve wondered he’s covered and wind tests all drones and settings, gives a honest opinion you can trust.
Get an Air 2s mate. Had one since they came out. Flown in high winds and the thing has never let me down. Brilliant images and videos, you won’t go wrong with it. Simple
I have the Air2, and it’s superb in the wind. There’s not a huge gap between the two, but the bigger 1" sensor on the Air2S and active track for hiking videos is probably worth the extra cash. Dont be fooled by the claimed 48mp trickery of the air2 by the way, it’s not that good.
Fully agree with comments. Air 2S had huge genuine 20Mp sensor and absolutely slices thru wind, and can be controlled with RC ( not RC2) remote.
It was easily my favourite model until the Air 3 came out.
That said, if you’re interested in an Air 3, DM me.but otherwise, Air 2S all the way
Ian.
Hi
Thanks for the answers, it’s very helpful. Just a quick question. I’ve been offered a Mavic 2 Pro ( not on here). With standard controller, a bit like my Mini SE. Again this is quite elderly but how does it compare to the A2s. I actually like my Mini SE controller and prefer it to my RC-N2 because of its compact size.
I love my M2Pro but as you say it’s getting long in the tooth. My main concern would be the batteries does it come with a few spare (I’d suggest at least 3 in good nick), they are getting harder to find (I don’t trust ones offered on eBay). So if in good nick, has 3 batteries also in good nick and at right price it would be a great drone.
Air 2S user, and it’s never let me down in windy conditions. The camera is very good. I have experimented with the follow mode when walking, and it’s worked well for me so far.
I bought the package with three batteries and a soft case; that would give me possibly over an hour of flying time, and fits neatly into the top of my daysack.
I am not sure if this is a standard thing (I assume it will be) but in cine mode, it is rock solid, and makes my clumsy flying look almost average!
