Is Mother buried somewhere on MoD land in Dorset?
This is a story, that I’m keen to follow. ![]()
If the army dont know were it is on that land somethings wrong lol
I was posted there for 2 years in 90/91 after losing my arm, I never tripped over a missing tank..I do remember one of my friends being on the news for getting drunk and stealing a tank and was in the news. I remember the police calling the base..should we block the roads with a couple of squad cars..oh that sits in my brain as one of the best ever stories. BTW, he was a really good guy, excellent soldier just made bad decisions when drunk. You can probably find the story somewhere online.
There’s this one from 1983:
No. thats just another one. I know of 2 during my 10 year stint by guys I knew, the rest are different incidents.
The one I refer to was from Lulworth, falls under the Bovington remit.
I’ve ransacked the internet trying to find reports of the incident you desribe (ok, done a quick google search) and found nothing. Then disappeared down several rabbit holes when searching the ever reliable and wholly factual ARRSE (Army Rumour Service) for Tank Twocking.
Do you have any further information?
No more than Ive given, it did happen though.
Had a look, like you cant find any mention of it. We were in 16th/5th Queens royal lancers. Probably kept out of news for a reason, they dont always cover good stories.
Must. Resist.
Mustn’t. Google. This.
Too late, you’ve thought about it now, resistance is futile…
I shall ask my new mate chatgpt ![]()

AI Overview
“ARRSE Tank Twocking” refers to a specific type of military folklore or a running joke associated with the British Army, particularly the Royal Tank Regiment (RTR) and sometimes discussed on the forum
ARRSE (Army Rumour Service).
- ARRSE is a well-known, unofficial British military web forum where personnel share stories, jokes, and discuss military life.
- Twocking is British slang for “taking without consent” (stealing), often associated with “taking and driving away” (TWOC).
- The term combines the forum’s name with stories of RTR soldiers allegedly “stealing” (or temporarily relocating as a prank) various items, most famously other regiments’ tanks or equipment, often around the time of their annual Cambrai Day celebrations.
A popular legend cited in forum discussions involves the RTR allegedly “stealing” a Challenger 1 tank from the Royal Hussars in Germany (BAOR) and leaving it painted pink on the square as a prank. These stories are part of the lighthearted inter-regiment rivalry and tradition within the British Army
