Dutch Military Ops ship HNLMS Karel Doorman on her way to Devonport Dockyard tonight.
There always seems to be a strange sinister feel about warships when entering the port during the dark of night!
Erie kinda thing, where’s it been or what it’s been up to apart from the obvious sailing the sea makes you wonder.
Edit, was that with the mavic 3
Sorry I should have said it was the Mavic 3 in night mode with a small amount of crop in post.
There’s a lot of NATO ships currently in Port.
I guess there all on alert or standby due to the crisis, i don’t know much about military but there seems to be a lot of it moving around and has been for a while, totally off key but I usually go to RIAT raf fairford every year for the planes but, I didn’t go this year as a lot was on standby or static etc and before that the pandemic so not been for a few years, I’ve had some great days there.
They attend a NATO course every so often. The last one about a month ago was with a few German . French, Spanish and Portugese ships have been operating around the Sound and just offshore…
Last time I saw the name HNLMS Karel Doorman (R81) was as a Colossus-class aircraft carrier of the Royal Netherlands Navy. Formerly the British ship HMS Venerable, She was sold to the Netherlands in 1948 as a light attack carrier. She operated some ex FAA SeaFuries. At the time (they were the fastest single engined piston engined a/c of the time.
She was sold to Argentina in 1969 and renamed ARA Veinticinco de Mayo
That was the one our skipper wanted to sight in the periscope in 82. But Argentina were so scared of our subs down there she never put to sea during the conflict.
I am visiting family next week end in Plymouth, was going to try the barbican with mini 3 pro if weather is okay. Any pointers or advice to get the best shots
