EIRE 48 WW2 markings
Despite my book “Secret Squadrons of the Eighth” covering the purpose and erection of these coastal signs, I have never seen one. So thanks.
Take a look at this one.
I always try to get one when i go to Ireland
Nice, but you will find they were not so much navigational aid for British pilots, but warning signs for mostly American pilots, who were crossing the Atlantic and approaching Eire. The warning was they were approaching a neutral country. My book incidentally is in the main about the U.S 8th Air Force. As for you being Mercedes - I am ex McClaren. But more so Can Am than F1. So, what a coincidence we share
Are you a member of Grand Prix Trust they have got a metting at McLaren on the 31st August. I am unable to attend.
No, not a member. I had thought about joining in the past, when I saw some of the tours they arrange. But then decided to leave the past in the past
As it is off topic here, feel free to PM me. if you wish.
What’s the meaning of the 48 out of interest?
Developed a real interest in the Eighth Air Force lately through a combination of living in East Anglia (where you can’t swing a cat without encountering some sort of former USAAF base) and watching Masters of the Air on Apple TV. Will have to give your book a look @patcarty2!
Cheers Rich - somehow overlooked that link earlier
Now ended up with some sort of bucket list idea of visiting them all (fuelled by vast quantities of Guinness obviously…)
