Does anyone have any recommendations on places to fly in Republic of Ireland that are accessible by tram from Dublin? I may be doing a day trip from Holyhead later in the summer.
I assume you’ll be sailing in on either Irish Ferries or Stena, so will be coming into Dublin Port.
There are a few seaside towns either north or south of Dublin, such as Malahide and Howth to the north and Dalkey and Dun Laoghaire to the south. Many of these have piers, harbours and Martello Towers which may float your boat to film. Dalkey is posh, so you may be more likely to have people challenge you, but there are some public bathing areas that have some interesting rock formations.
All of these are accessible from the DART, and Connolly Station is directly down the North Quay from the port.
Yes, Stena from Holyhead.
Are the DART and railway wheelchairs friendly like I believe the tram system is?
I do more photography than videography with my drones, and what you mentioned sounds interesting.
I know that the main stations all have portable ramps, for accessing the trains. The DART is light rail rather than a tram, the tram lines are called the Luas but go further inland rather than along the coast.
I’m afraid I can’t tell you anything about accessing any of the areas by wheelchair, as it’s been some time since I’ve visited any of the seaside towns, and when I did, it was as a pedestrian. Maybe someone more local can provide more current info on that.
Just a thing to remember, I’m not sure what the transport links are from the port to the city centre, having always driven to the port. It’s walkable if you enjoy walking, but I’m not sure about wheelchair provisions on public transport between the port and the train station.
Thanks. I understand that bus service 53 from the port is accessible, as is the Luas from The Point.
I have already purchased and received a Leap day card for transport.
As far as I can see those places need Authorisation from Dublin Air Traffic Control?
I’m sorry, I’ve not flown there, so I did not consider that.
Howth lies directly under the approach path for the 10/28 runways, I’d have thought the more southerly locations would not be under the runway fingers, and should be outside the airport exclusion zone, but I could well be wrong.
