I’m thrilled to share my latest YouTube video with you all! This project has been four months in the making, and it’s finally ready. Join me on a breathtaking aerial journey that captures the magic of Wells Cathedral from both above and within!
I am incredibly grateful to Wells Cathedral for granting me permission to fly inside this magnificent structure, which allowed me to capture some truly unique perspectives. A special thanks goes out to Nigel Clarke and Lizz De Pass for their invaluable support and coordination.
What’s more, the video is beautifully accompanied by the ethereal sounds of the Wells Cathedral Choir. We were fortunate to have permission to use their 2022 recording of “Dormi Jesu” by the renowned composer John Rutter. The music adds a rich and heartfelt layer to the entire experience.
I hope you enjoy watching the video as much as I enjoyed creating it.
Great video and soundtrack, especially the internal clips as others have mentioned, brought back memories, I had a student placement at the REME workshops at Warminster many years ago and had quite a few outings to Wells Cathedral, beautiful place.
Astonishing, John, especially the interiors. I’m intending to do this at Llandaff (Cardiff) sometime soon and only hope they’ll be as accommodating!
Wells Bells, rung by swans at teatime. Last time I was there, I got chatting to one of deacons and he showed me a lovely little original carving on the top and round the back of one of the smaller side-aisle pillers of stonemasons on their break chugging cider and playing cards. a brilliant little medieval human touch. It made me realise that you could spend a lifetime studying such a building and never finish the job!
I might be an atheist, but I likes a birra goffick, I duz…
Wow, absolutely fantastic drone videography. Stunning internal views of the cathedral. All combined with a beautiful soundtrack. A very interesting project. If you don’t mind me asking, how long did this take to put together ? From initial enquiries to final completion ?
Thank you for your kind words and glad you enjoyed the video. It took four month from start to finish to arrange. However it could of been done well within one month. We used the Cathedral green for another project for filming the Wells Carnival. As a thank you I said I would do a video of the Cathedral for them. At the time of arranging I asked if I could get permission to fly inside. After a couple calls, proof of £5m liability insurance etc…it was granted. The rest is history.
What a coup, to get the permissions! Well done. Lovely light. The music fits perfectly for the subject. I don’t know why, maybe it’s something to do with my iMac but some of the footage seems to judder. Experts in frame rates etc might be able to explain more. Particularly the internals. At min 1.08/2.14/2.38//3.12, just as examples.
I’m glad you enjoyed the video and it was worth the wait to get the permission to fly inside. As for the judder I think I found the issue around the Pocket 3. It was OK on premier then for some reason on YouTube it did this. But thanks for bringing it to my attention.
Thats not to take anything away from the overall results, but I know from my own experiences with judder, it can be frustrating! I have a Parrot Anafi with which I’ve had similar issues in post.
