Experimental airframe 'Tempest'

Inspired by the current MOD program ‘Tornado 2 Tempest’ which involves feeding old Tornadoes into a big mincing machine and creating new parts for our new wonder fighter that will probably never fly as we can’t really afford it I decided to do something with a binned Yuneec Typhoon H480 using what remains serviceable and a carbon fibre airframe from Ali Express

After a few squiffy starts with no GPS or compass, it finally flies.

Now the fun starts.

I’ll be watching your progress with interest
I’ve just recycled a HERELINK system on to a T680 hexacopter frame :slightly_smiling_face:

It’s a slow project I’m building with a friend given half the components are his. He’s not on here so I can say he’s not a particular good test pilot. How he managed to destroy two rotors on take off is beyond me

I’m looking forward to putting a proper cage on for the battery rather than having it strapped on with velcro.

Don’t get me wrong, the Phoons are lovely machines but Christ they are fussy out of the box & can be a handful anyway. For the short time I had this was in the air yesterday it was as twitchy as a cat with St Vitus Dance that had been thrown onto a hot tin roof.

Well as you said the GPS wasn’t working and the compass wasn’t calibrated. I also had to tweak the motors a bit to get them straight

Motors that are used for hovering should not be pitched forward unless you want to go somewhere

See: Ospreys.
