Morning all,
Does anyone know if there’s any way to rename files on your drone SD card using the DJI Fly app?
I only ask because I’ve had a few days where I’ve flown in a few different locations, and if there was an option to change the file prefix from the standard “DJI…” to “Location A”, “Location B”, etc then that would save a bit of time sorting through files once getting home.
What would be ideal is an option in the app where you could have all videos and photos at that location prefixed with “Location A”, then a date time stamp, and a sequential file number. But I’m probably just dreaming there…

I’m afraid so
If you have access to a computer you could rename them and put the card back in, but I suspect that’s the whole point, that you don’t have access while away etc
I just use the date and time stamps of the files to work out where they were taken.
Sort them by date / time order then you can just group them by the images / video from your start of flight to end of flight time then just copy paste them into a folder for that location.

Can’t be done in Fly but there’s a Windows app, Bulk Rename Utility, that can rename the files adding date & time to the filename which might help you. A 2nd run of BRU could then rename adding location text based on the date in the filename
Wouldn’t surprise me if it could do it all in one pass but I haven’t tried to work out how yet.

Better file rename does the same on the Mac , and will do it in one pass
Thanks all. I had been using the date time stamps already to get a rough idea of which files were which.
I hadn’t thought of using a bulk renaming tool before, but will give that a look in future

I don’t bother renaming files from the DJI apps at all, I just sync them from the tablet to OneDrive, and then drag-and-drop from the Camera Roll folder into location folders on my PC. If I don’t have access to the PC, I can still do the same using the web interface to OneDrive.
If I did ever want to rename them on the tablet, I’d fire up X-plore File Manager and use its batch rename function (or just use it to add sub-folders as required).
They can also be renamed on the SD card with an OTG cable and USB SD card adapter.
Take a photo of your mobile phone screen showing date before flying in different locations then it’s easy to sort
There’s even a half-way decent rename/serialise feature built into MacOS:
Wasn’t there a few years ago…
