File on SD card can only be seen when RC2 is connected to computer?

At the end of a flight today I turned off the drone video recording but inadvertently (aka having a senior moment) turned off the RC unit before stopping the screen recording. I now have a 304mb file on the RC, in the movies directory, that answers to the snappy name of .djivideo(19 digits).mp4. The problem is I cannot play, rename or move the file. I’ve created a subsequent screen recording and closed it properly (as one does with the normal drone videos) hoping it would close the presumably still open file but I still can’t access it. Does anyone have an answer or is the file bin fodder?

Did you have an sd card in it also what rc ?

Hi Kirky,

Sorry, forgot to mention it’s the RC2. The file is on the SD card but can only be seen when the RC is connected directly to a computer. If I take the card out of the RC and insert it into a computer the file doesn’t show at all.

It’s not a life-or-death situation to recover the file but I would like to as a couple of warnings flashed up on the screen during the flight and I didn’t have time to read them. I’d also like to know what to do next time I have a senior moment :joy:.

I don’t know much about this issue but I did do some digging on a DJI forum last night,
Someone said turn the controller on hit record wait a second then stop record usually fixes it( sorts it out) how certain this is I’m not sure, but just had a look around to see if I could find an answer for you,
I thought not to post the link as then some on the forum( DJI ) start talking about their Sony camcorders & dvd recorders at home & it goes right off topic,
Maybe those steps with the sd card in the controller ? But then again someone one here may know the answer & have more knowledge than myself on this, either way good luck & I hope you get it sorted :+1:

Thanks for your efforts in looking for an answer, much appreciated. The first thing I did was to start another screen recording and stop it after a few seconds as this does fix drone videos not stopped before turning off the controller. Doesn’t seem to be the answer in this case.

Not to worry, I still have the full resolution video from the drone. Again, thanks for your consideration.

With computer file systems you need to close the file when you finish writing and update the directory. Sounds like you have an open file which some systems will display in a listing and others not. File recovery software should be able to sort it on the computer if you’re sure it’s been saved to the SD card. If it’s on the internal memory you probably need to somehow copy it to the card but that would involve closing the file on the RC2 first so you’re into Android file management app and I don’t know enough about that - sorry!
