flying a drone near an emergency incident is dangerous and directly impacts our ability to keep crews safe and respond effectively
Unsure reasons they fire service complained but not follow it up by a police investigation, to me breaking some law but the legislation is vague imo. If its clear in black and white somewhere I apologise, I was always under the impression emergency incident was stay clear ground the drone asp to avoid emergency air service if needed.
It’s mentioned in the Drone and Model Aircraft Code, although the DMAC is not a legislation document as such as it informs you how to fly a drone legally and safely…
Emergency incidents
You must keep out of the way and not fly in any way that could hamper the emergency services when they’re responding to an emergency incident.
If you’re out flying at or near to an emergency incident when it happens, you must safely and immediately stop flying unless the emergency services give you permission to continue.
You must:
follow any temporary restrictions that are put in place
take particular care not to hinder any aerial support to the emergency services
respect and protect the privacy of anyone involved in the emergency
There was a big fire recently around my way (‘funnily’ enough, also a couple of teenagers arrested for arson)… within the hour there were several TikTok/YT channels with footage near (and, in at least one case, over) the firefighters.
I’m sure it generated a lot of traffic for their channels, and one of the videos made it on to the national news, but I did wonder how long it’ll be before we’re all bombarded with another round of panicked YouTube videos decrying the latest change to the rules implementing roving FRZs that are stuck to the GPS location of any active blues-and-twos.
