First attempt at a video, first week flying

Feedback would be much appreciated on how I could have done this better. Thank you!

For a first video I would say it is exceptional, only two things that I will nitpick is the slight jerk at the start before you go off to the left, and the pan at 2 mins would have worked better if it was slower. But that is just the feedback you asked for, it’s still a good video regardless and I could feel the cold from the computer screen. You added the map and music, and some transitions, so you are doing well!

Ah yes, the slight jerk was actually the drone losing the subject box in circle mode and wandering off stage left on its own. However, I liked the fact that it seemed to highlight the fallen trees and the frosting on the higher trees. Well spotted though! Yes, I take the hit on the high pan speed - I was nervous as the drone was further away than I’d ever flown it, just visible still thanks to its nice orange coat.
Many thanks for your constructive criticism - just what I was after. :+1:

As a first video I would say that was excellent and if I could get my first video half as good as that I would be over the moon and agree with the other comment when panning use cinematic mode otherwise can’t wait to see more videos when you do them :+1:

That’s one of the problems of using ā€œAutomated modesā€. Take some time and learn to do a ā€œcircleā€ manually, both with the drone facing inside and outside the circle, it’s not hard. Also practice doing ā€œsquaresā€ and ā€œfigure 8sā€, once again outside and inside facing. Nice first try tho’

Many thanks, Iain. I have a few non-drone videos on YouTube from when I used to paraglide. BIG accident in Feb 23 stopped that so I’m looking forward to learning the new challenges of drone flying. Been flying professionally all my adult life, so hopefully some of that experience will keep me safe.

Good idea! I certainly want to learn to fly it myself rather than rely on the technology. I’ve already learned to fly it without the sticks.

Welcome Chris, fellow Thames Valley paraglider here, though I hardly fly any more with the way the weather is going, age and laziness! I find the drone a much more reliable way of getting aerial photos.

Good first video, but tricky flat light. I don’t know if the Mini 2 has a flatter semi-log format to shoot in, but that would give more scope for editing. I use DaVinci Resolve, but it has a steep learning curve. I’d be interested to know if you’ve done any colour editing on this.

I recognise you from TVHGC! I’m very much a former paraglider pilot now sadly.

I haven’t looked into anything other than the ā€˜out of the box’ settings yet. Certainly no post-production there, despite it looking like there is no colour at all, apart from my coat! It was very dark, with a big weather front coming in, but I felt that gave the scene an element of mystery and foreboding, especially as the monument is a family memorial to war dead. I would like to find something that would make colours pop and have a play with light levels, but being a stingey Scot would only be interested in free or very cheap software - I’m just doing this for fun afterall.

With good light, normal video is probably fine to start with. The free version of DaVinci Resolve is all many people need, but you need to watch a few training videos to get started. There are other free editing packages that are quicker and easier for basic editing, but I don’t know much about them. Anyway, have fun!

That video was beautiful really enjoyed that good stuff. I can’t give much advice as I’m new to flying too, one week in but i loved that so much. Brilliant video :grinning::+1:
